im gonna hopefully be doing a nice halo themed case ( uh oh, another one !!! :hehe: )

and im just havin some trouble brainstorming ideas on how i might actually do some of the stuff im planning, any thoughts about it would be very helpful.

heres a few pics to help explain my idea better:

yes it is a sidepanel, and yes it will be acryllic and (before i get booed off the boards for it :thumb: ) yes these WONT be the colors

^ just a key for the thicknesses ^

^ somethin to visualize it a little better ^

^ i want it to look as close to this as possible ^

i was thinking about etching all the semi-white stuff into the red part ( on my key ) after its vinyle(sp?) died, but im not really sure on how to get that off-white color into it...

i was also thinkin about putting the design on the lettering between 2 sheets of 1/8" acryillic then use the stuff to perm weld the two pieces together ( i forget the name of the stuff atm.. ) and then cutting out the letters.

as for the gray parts ( blue parts in my key )... thats another qaundry im having on how to pull it off

id love to here any comments/suggestions before i try anything stupid and end up glueing my hand/feet/face or any other part of my body to a piece of plastic, or even worse... my work area :hehe:

Allz i can say is that would look very nice :D
    As a suggestion
i would divide the design up into it's layers... and then get those lazer cut.
then when it's done just paint em and stick em back together

wayyyy ahead of ya

i started out doin it the easy way then it took twice as long having to go back and fix it up and makem into each individule piece to correct size and thickness

then again its probly cause its 2 am and i feel liek death that it took so long.. either way Jackass is on and im laughing uncontrolably

I have an idea... RESIZE YOUR PICS dude.

I have a 1280X1024 screen resolution and STILL have to scroll left and right to see and read the post. I wonder how bad it is for the majority of others here who don't have a large monitor or big screen resolution. How 'bout a little consideration?

ok something that i know all right!
ok this is very similar to a wood working Technique called Intarsia where you cut different species of wood of different thicknesses very carefully so they fit like a puzzle. it's not that hard to do once you get it down but take your time. Here is a link to a qick beginners guide on the process.
when i do my intarsia i use one of these
    [IMG]
i tried cutting plastic with it and it works ok although you need many relief cuts becouse the blade greats enouf friction to stick the plastic back together after the cut.

Alternatively you can just layer the peaces to get the same effect.

edit(woops i'll have to read more closely look like you did the hard part. can help with the glueing though looks nice)

Thanks, El Nosba, I appreciate it. Looking forward to seeing progress on this project.

Da_BaCoN: "...and are those going to be the colors?!"

El Nosba (in his FIRST post): "...and (before i get booed off the boards for it ) yes these WONT be the colors"

im really just throwing some ideas around about the project as i am dirt poor atm :miffed:

    * heres what ive got so far *

the actual halo is 1" thick 4" wide and measures 2'-6" in diameter   and itll have the land, sea and clouds done on the inside and if i have the time, ill do the etching on the outsides also ( which will obviously be the handle and ill support the whole case from the bottom )

the scorpion ( i know the models cheesy, but i only spent like an hour last night on it and its just for testing to see how itll look ) will be the res [ the input and output will be in the front treads as to avoid the power supply and i was gonna go along with the banshee theme and make the plug of the cannon the muzzle flash, and be able to put the water in via the cannon, but i doubt it tho, as the water level would be off and itd be damn near impossible to keep air out of the system ]

and the circular design with be something to spice up the fan that ill be putting there

i was thinking about mebe having the scorpion shooting at a banshee thatd' be suspended via some sorta metal rod from the top of the halo as if it was lining up to destroy the scorpion

incase anyone was wondering the case measures 490mm-450mm-250 mm ( H/D/W )

i loveeeeeee lots of room BWHAHAHAHAHA :naughty: :naughty:

    now THATS original.

    2 things though;

1- if you're going to have watercooling the tubes MUST go around the circular thing, which MUST have some sort of UV illumination, led's/ ccfl

    2- LED'S IN THE ROUND THING :D

you also just gave me the most fantastic idea for the halo and the led's ( if were on the same level, i think we both know what im thinking about )

i wonder how many offem ima need to pull off what we're thinking... i hope alot :D :dremel:

whilst im on the topic of this project, i know people on here talk about vinyl dying and such and im aware that it actually seeps into the plastic to color it, but what im not aware of how accurate it can be in terms of painting on acrylic with it, and im not totally sure about the colors that are available to me, would anyone happen to have a site with info on that sorta thing ? cause even tho i did google it, all that kept coming up was stuff about dying the interior of cars :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash:

i think you're redone design looks a lot better. the only thing i would do is maybe get rid of the tank (like someone said, it looks like a toy left on there) and go strictly with covenant-style designs...

one idea i had for the design you've got.... on the top front, you've got that little square off part. i'm guessing you're going to have the cd drive up there? if so, you could make it so that section pops up when you open the cd drive. (not sure how you would implement it, but if you could get it to work, it'd be awesome imo) here's where i'm talking about (ph34r my paint sk1llz! ):
