Looking to buy some Chanel N5 as a stocking filler for the good lady and wondered whether the Eau de Parfum Spray or Eau de Toilette or just the simple perfume should be my choice?
AFAIK, the difference between perfume, eau de parfum and eau de toilette is the strength of the whiffy bits (technical term) - perfume has the most and eau de toilette has the least. This is reflected in the way you use it (perfume is dabbed on the pulse points; eau de toilette is sprayed), but also in the price - perfume tends to cost more (and comes in smaller bottles) than eau de toilette. Apparently, they all release scent in slightly different ways - EDT tends to be fresher, but fades quite quickly; eau de parfum is longer lasting, with slightly more complexity and warmth; perfume lasts the longest and has the most complex range of scents of all. At the end of the day, it all boils down to how much you want to spend
Nothing to add. Used to buy perfume for the missus and it scales as explained above: perfume > eau de parfum > eau de toilette. Perfume contains over 20% of concentrated "scent" (but can be up to 40% for luxury products), EdP between 12% and 20%, EdT between 7% and 12%.
Kronos, does she definitely like the stuff? at £50+ a pop for Chanel, it's a reasonably expensive stocking filler!
I am going for this one as I found a twenty quid note in a jacket pocket yesterday so I can afford to buy the 50ml for £68 but in effect it is only £48 due to my windfall. I note that this little variation in prices anywhere I assume that Chanel have a hand in that?
I wouldn't like to speculate, because price-fixing is illegal.... ...but it's not often the department store chains include Chanel concession products in their big sales. Presumably the jacket pocket was yours? I could do with jackets like that...
Oh yes it was my jacket, a winter jacket that I brought out of storage as it has been cold and wet up here.
