Working on a new machine, wanted to know if I could run 7 as a virtual machine and have it access the GPU (for games that do not function well/at all under WINE, or games with DX10/11) since my new system has an issue with ACHI and doesn't want to install Windows. (This is a known board problem, working on getting a revision swap or a better BIOS. These are running custom EFI firmware, so I'm not gonna bodge it in meself.)

I have seen that many VMs now offer some hardware acceleration, but assuming a better than crap video card, what would I be looking at?

Might work, will be a big performance hit.

in my experience, xen and virtual box have the best results. xen is almost transparent and i didn't see a really noticeable performance penalty, virtual box is ok with about a 15% performance penalty maybe as a guesstimate. games seemed a little slower on it.
