If anyone has picked up some Meshtastic stuff, you're going to want to update to 2.6.2 (or newer, if available): nasty remote code execution bug, potentially wormable.

Curious to see if you're still doing the meshtastic thing, Mr H? Did you ever get the big ol' Seeed kit you mentioned?

Got to say, I did go down a bit of a rabbit-hole the other day and got very tempted to pick up some kit. The immediate use case I thought of was "off grid" comms up to my mother's house, because the mobile signal up there sucks and neither of them can get WiFi calling working properly. But they're 21km away "as the crow flies", there's an awful lot of mountain in the way ('cos South Wales, innit), and I don't see an awful lot of nodes around here in the various mapping tools linked to earlier in the thread.

So... curious to see if you're still playing with it, and if it's become more than just "hey, this is a cool toy!".

    This makes me sad.

I'm imagining you sat in a den with a walkie talkie and nobody on the other one

    Hah, fair enough

It’s still tempting, I do quite like the idea of an “off-grid” decentralised comms network. But I don’t think there are many nodes in my area, so I can’t help but think that the utility would be somewhat limited.

If those Seeed base station kits were available anywhere, I might be more tempted to have a play around. I might have a nose about to see if there’s a similar kit available for a similar, or preferably lower, price.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone ruins it at some point by adding a AI chat bot.
