I know the cables dont look that great but the PC is tucked under a desk and there is no side window. Besides it's only me that ever gets tolook at it
Anyone had experience with Gigabyte Graphics Cards? Gigabyte 290 Back in stock at scan for £314. Spoke to scan regarding cooler removal. Essentially warranty would be void for cooler removal as with an MSI card... however...... as long as the card was not damaged by cooler removal scratched PCB etc and the original cooler reattached for returns should not be a problem if a fault arose. What you say? I have never watercooled that graphics card !!!! LOL
spose it depends if there are any "warranty void if removed" stickers. I'd just go for it... check it works ok frist. With my 7950 I left it benchmarking on Unigine or whatever it is called for a couple of hours. Was ok when I got back so I assumed all was well then told myself I'd voided my warranty and boshed on the water block. Can't remember if there was any sticker saying here be dragons or of the likes. I guess if it died, I'd get pissy and send it back, original cooling attached, to see what happens. This is the *limited* risk you take. As long as you test it before jumping int that is.
Ha ha... my messy cables are mostly unseen in my case. Doesn't mean it ain't messy... they are just unseen. (rumour has it if you venture to the other side of the case bulges can be seen... nothing a wall can't take care of)
It's working out very well thanks. I'm getting great framerates in all my games. But due to the layout of the PCI-E slots on my board, the middle card is a bit snug. This means I've had to run a very aggressive fan profile, so the rig runs extremely loud. This is not really a problem because I'm currently gaming with my headphones. But the sooner I get some blocks on them the better....
Hmmmm seems to have disappeared off the ebuyer website! Waiting for the email to say out of stock blah blah.
Just to let others that are using more than one of these cards know....The WHQL drivers fix the Vsync issue. I have been playing BF4 with these drivers and Vsync enabled and it is superbly smooth and free of tearing. Link.... http://www.guru3d.com/files_details/amd_catalyst_13_11_whql_download.html
Well after 10 minutes of FarCry 3 my system completly crashed. Nothing in logs just a black screen and a horrible sound coming from the speakers. I didnt hear the fan spin up at all during the game so I guess it cooked itself? Control centre settigs are all on default and I havnt messed with any clocks. Idle temp is 44c which should be fine. Good job I still have my old card.
I just downloaded the latest drivers from AMD's website. Looks like only beta drivers are available? Not sure if uninstalling the previous software removed the drivers from the 6970. On a good note I enabled the advanced section in ccc and reduced clock speed by 10%. I also upped the slider to 60%. Since then no black screen! Hardly a fix I know but it points to it being an overheating issue more than anything. I'm still in two minds with this card at the moment.
With a little more tinkering I might have nailed it. I returned gpu to 100% and set target temp to 90c. I set max fan to 75% and hey presto no crashes. Noise isnt too bad either. Hopefully I panicked over nothing
My 290 was delivered this morning. According to the Ebuyer website it's discontinued. I'm thinking it was a stock cock up advertising at that price. And they have quickly corrected It.
