I blame those albums on Daron Malakian(guitarist). Those two would've been much better if not for his whiny voice on half of the tracks. Seems like he's a band killer. SOAD split after those two albums. He did the same to Scars on Broadway, they were scheduled to start touring and had dates set but he "just wasn't feeling it"... His words.

if you havent yet you should check out serj tankians solo stuff...not as much metal as it is just a form of alternate rockish type stuff, but still very good.

is anyone as let down as i am in regards to In Flames' musical direction? just comparing the jester race to their new things is depressing.

on a more positive note, you guys should all check out kalmah and dark tranquillity. both of them have just put out new albums and they are pretty kickass

I've heard a few songs from Serj's solo album but haven't picked it up yet. I've liked what I've heard though.

In Flames is good but I haven't heard their first three that fans swear-by yet. The first of theirs that I got were Soundtrack to Your Escape and Come Clarity. Both are good albums. I got A Sense of Purpose recently and it was ok. Not great but not bad. The Quiet Place is one of my favorite songs from them. Actually, it's one of my favorite songs from any band currently.

you really should check out the jester race then. its the first album they released with anders friden as the lead singer(i think...) before that one there is the lunar strain album, which has mikael stanne(dark tranquillity lead singer) on the vocals. if you like in flames i would highly recommend taking a look at dark tranquillity and at the gates though. they all started on pretty much the same block.

I listen to Van Halen, Boston, Led Zep. Deep Purple, Rainbow, Budgie, Nazareth, Uriah Heep, Gary Moore, Thin Lizzy, Joe Satriani, ZZ Top, Bad Company and BTO still to this day and enjoy as much as I did in the 70's

I was just poking fun about the college, don't worry :D

But +1 to the bands. Love At the Gates, just wish they were still out making music... though maybe it's better since they don't have a risk of going bad like In Flames. Oh well, throw in The Red in the Sky is Ours and it's a good drive home!

Nothing wrong with In Flames. Old or New imo. Met them this year, most awesome thing ever. Then the gig was even better.
Killswitch headlined that night - and were also superb!

I will agree that Five finger death punch are better live as they are bloody insane live I have only seen them a couple of times but every time they had suce a good stage show and such a huge ammount of energy it just gets the crowd going massively

Oooh a Korpi and Falkenbach fan i noticed up there, awesome!
I'm mostly obsessed with In Flames and Metallica at any given time. I'll tend to always have an album's worth of music by both about my person at any one time.

My interests tend to cover tons of random stuff though. It'd be pointless listing it all, but Korpiklaani, In Flames, Metallica are my 3 played i'd imagine.

And on the In Flames front, Jester Race to Come Clarity all have incredible tracks. If i'm lost for something to listen to i'll stick the lot on all day. Not heard much of A Sense though.

And i'm not a fan of Mastodon, they were on at Download a few years back on the main stage, I fell asleep for their set and woke up again for Lamb of God.

    Couple people did..

SOAD was cooler when the singer still had short hair, and before the guitarist started singing. :-(

The only talented musician in the band was the drummer IMO.

Anything with Devin Townsend involved is on my list of good listening.
As for old thrash - Slayer, Anthrax, Overkill.
At the gates was AWESOME! But so are The Haunted these days (it's basically the same band as At The Gates).
    As blood runs Black, Unearth,

Bands I dislike even though they get SUPER hyped?
Metallica - they bore me to death ever since the Black Album. Justice was the last album where they delivered, IMO
Tool - Maynard James Keenan only sang on one good album, and that was Mer de Noms

Bands I Like in spite of everyone else hating them or them not being metal at all?
    Billy Talent
    AFI
    Cobra Starship

I was a big 8 Foot Satvia fan, along with The Haunted, Meshuggah, Carcass, Sepultura, At the Gates etc but I have mellowed in my old age and only listen to then occasionally.

Hate made me was the best followed by Season for assault.
