I've now joined the vape brigade, even after swearing for many a year that I'd rather just smoke. But that was partly because my experience of e-cigs is from 10 years ago and they were shite back then.

Had picked up smoking again towards the end of last year, gave up again because the reality is I don't want to end up like my grandad, barely about to walk to the bathroom without almost collapsing. But, I am far far happier when I'm smoking, and the want was strong last weekend and as a compromise got a disposable vape. And I rather enjoyed it. Happiness and calmness resumed, a £9 disposable lasted about a week and a half, so cost isn't really an issue.

Bought a vapresso xros 3 mini and a bottle of blackjack and a cherry from vampire vapes, which arrived today. The 0.6ohm tank and freebase liquids I got didn't quite hit the mark like the disposable did, bit dryer and not as much flavour, so got some 1ohm tanks and some nic salt fluids coming to try. See if I can a balance I like.

1ohm with 50/50 nic salt liquid produced even less flavour. Going back to the 0.6ohm and combining the cherry and blackjack 40/60 was better. Still not as much flavour as the disposables, but decent. Don't get too much smoke off it either.gonna try some different brands of fluid, see if I can find something with more pep. Recommendations welcome.

Nearly 2 months later and a major draw back to packing in vaping has been identified, I now have to go into shops when out with the wife, gone the days of propping up a wall and saying 'I'll hang here and have a toot whilst you shop' :wallbash:

So as I was gaming this evening, I was occasionally hanging onto the vape in my mouth hands free. It's not particularly big, but not comfortable, and I thought "god, wouldn't it be amazing if you could get a vape pipe, could just bite on it out to the side like a proper pipe", so I googled and found the kamry k1000, which is a fairly handsome pipe
    [IMG]
I read up on what little info I could find, reviews weren't stellar, but it has a standard 510 tank thread and drop tip, so I could always upgrade them if need be. But digging a little further you have to push the button on the top of the bowl to activate it. What I wanted was something to hold onto and take drags hands free.

Then I found a pipe stem for 510 drip fit, so wondered if I could get a normal vape mod and use the pipe stem with it, but it seems like all more advanced vapes require you to push a button. Is that the case or not? Might just get the pipe for fun anyway :hehe:

What you're thinking of is drag activation. Its a thing for pod systems, think juul etc, not bigger devices

Yeah, the draw activation thing is really only present on disposables or smaller pod systems. It’s not very reliable, and it would be difficult to implement on larger devices/tanks. What makes it doubly hard these days is that a lot of tanks have adjustable airflow rings; if I open the airflow on my Smok TFV-Mini all the way then there’s basically no resistance whatsoever.

TBH, I’d be worried about cleaning a longer drip tip. It’s going to get gunked up with condensed liquid, and as you draw on it all that condensed gunk is going to get sucked into your lungs… Blech… My drip tip is about 10mm from the coil, and it’s bad enough when that gets covered in goo…

I remember pipe vapes from a long time back, I always wanted one . These days though the devices have largely moved on past that, pretty much everything is sub-ohm. Even some pod systems; I had a Smok Nord, I think it was the Nord 2, vape a while back, and even that’s sub-ohm.

Sounds like you need to go direct-to-lung instead of mouth-to-lung, @The_Crapman

Thanks guys, that's a shame, but understandable. I did think I could always jam the button down, but I guess that's just gonna burn the coils in a matter of seconds if I'm not inhaling. Don't think cleaning the mouthpiece will be too difficult, just an alcohol wipe shoved through every now and then should do the trick, I have some quite small one I use now which would work well. Could probably pull it through a darning needle eye to drag it through.

I currently run 2 different pods on my vapresso xros mini; 1 ohm for 50/50 20mg nicsalt liquids when I want a good hit, 0.6 ohm for 70/30 6mg freebase for habitual puffing :)eyebrow:). I really like it's compactness and simplicity, and there's not a massive amount of residual smoke when exhaled, so don't see me moving away from it for normal usage. But now I've seen the pipe I can't unsee it, so I'll get one on payday and let you know the results. Will probably use stock initially before deciding if I want to waste any more money on it with aftermarket tanks and coils.

Oh yeah, definitely don’t do that :hehe:.

A totally left-field alternative here is making your own mod with something like an Evolv DNA board,l and rigging up an externally-wired fire button… This is bit-tech after all :dremel:, and I seem to remember a certain Brummie forum denizen winning modding contests and going on to present what was at the time a quite successful YouTube channel… :hehe:

In all seriousness, that’s a road I very nearly went down many years ago, back when high-wattage and temperature-controlled devices were still quite expensive. Simple extruded aluminium project box, a nice chromed “fire” button, built-in LiPo cell, and a 510 connector. I even bought all the bits I needed… and promptly never got around to it! :hehe: These days I can’t be arsed with all that. I have a decent high-wattage mod that didn’t cost the earth (Smok R-Kiss 2), I have two sets of 18650 cells and an external charger, my tank with its pre-made coils is damn good, and I really do want to pack this in within the next couple of years.

Oh you utter barsteward. F@#k you, you're a total total total, I don't know what it is, but you're it.

You know perfectly well I'm going to have to try and build one in a normal pipe now. Goit! :hehe::hehe::hehe::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

I'm already at it. Trying to figure out if there's a way to fire one via Bluetooth, then assigning the "sniper" button on my m65 to activate it for hands free vaping.

Curse you @Byron C! I'm meant to be finishing month end!:hehe:

[brushes hands] Well, I think my work here is done

If it’s any consolation, right now I’m supposed to be designing some pretty gnarly data models that I said I’d nail by the end of the day. What I’m actually doing right now is mucking about on the forum, and shortly I’ll be off looking at little round watch-like LCD displays and planning out a little hardware project* I’ve been thinking about…

*Ironically, said project is intended to help with reducing distractions . I’m a big fan of “things that are meant for only one job and do that job well”; now I have a capable 3D printer, I hit upon the idea of a dedicated Pomodoro timer using a small display and an MCU. But of course, scope creep is a real thing, so now I’m also looking at integrating haptic feedback motors, haptic feedback controllers, and fancy input methods:worried:

2.5+months later, am I now an ex-vaper, do I feel confident in myself to dump the drawer full of tanks, cotton, wire, odd atties, mods and close to 1 litre of 72mg/ml nic at the tip?

I sure as **** wouldn’t be that confident .

Though I wouldn’t have kept it around in the first place… I would have had to get rid of it all when I packed it in, otherwise it would have been almost impossible to resist the temptation to pick it back up! :hehe:

Same, I ain't that daft fella :thumb:, a butt load of batteries ( all of them) went to the tip as soon as I ran out of regular atties, only odd ball atties and build it your self kits are left and my laziness exceeds my desire to vape, although I've just remembered a drawer with several bottles of TJ juice flavours and 5 bottles of my favourite premium short fill, which may have tipped the scale if they were in view.

I think the only hurdle left for me is what happen when I go out for M-cycles rides, I always stopped off somewhere scenic and had a toot, although if I can mange the 2 hours commute each way without vaping it shouldn't be an issue

Be wary about getting rid of absolutely everything. I often found while quitting smoking that if I had some in a drawer, I knew if it got too much they were there, and found that comforting.

Also, what bits you got? I could always buy them off you save going to waste?

Overall, very happy with it, other than the feel of the mouthpiece, which has a not smooth texture. But I have another coming so hopefully that will solve that problem. Very much in old man mode :hehe:

Oooh, every since I started I thought about a pipe

Completely forgot about it. What's the draw like down a pipe compared to a regular mod?

    I'd missed this. Sound advice.

I've still got a pack of golden Virginia from 10+ years ago. Every few years I give it a good sniff then put it away

Just knowing it was there meant I never thought about there not being any.

I've not used a mod before, on a pod pen thing mostly, so I couldn't tell you I'm afraid. Got adjustable airflow, and is super unrestrictive fully open, like sucking through the old fat McDonald's straws.
Just don't go smoking that, at 10years old it'd be instant death :hehe:

Cheers bud, may just give one a go for the hell of it and so I can look wiser than I am.
