Have any of you modders every come across any examples of building a water cooled Via C7. Yeah, I know WHY??? Answer: Because we can. The C7 in question is the 1.5 version with a fan - not the 1.2 fanless version. Also my motherboard is not mini-itx or laptop. It's for the project logs but not yet. Just checking. John
Not sure what the Mobo is, but have a look through here. http://coolercasesuk.co.uk/showthread.php?t=3172 He used a modified D-TeK FuZion GPU block on the CPU.
Here a link This is the board in question. The piece with the fan is the CPU, almost as little as the gold north bridge. I suupose I'll open mine up and look for holes. http://www.linuxdevices.com/files/misc/via_pc2500_gos_dev_board.jpg John
Quick update This site has a view of the bottom of the board. It appears to have 4 holes where the CPU heatsink is mounted. The silk screen on the red link on the page shows the holes. I guess it's time to open the box and measure. http://www.clubit.com/product_detail.cfm?itemno=A4842001# John
Just looking at the pic, I'd say that a northbridge block would fit those mounting holes. (I fitted a Zalman NB flower cooler to passive-cool my MiniITX HTPC mobo)
I seam to recall a via MB based project that was water cooled but I think it needed a custom processor cooler unit.
I'm in the process of constructing a very tiny watercooling system for my Pico-ITX's 1ghz C7 using parts from a CoolerMaster AquaGate and a 40.2mm radiator. Details are in the PrometheusCU link in my signature.
The box for Cheaps is packed and will be sent tomorrow. Got busy today cleaning out my office at work. Another early retirement and all the paperwork. I wonder how many Times a person can accept retirement before the neighbors talk - Can't keep a Job? John
Well, I haven't had a real job yet... We are going to have one hell of a time tracking our correspondence on this project. I truly hope I haven't bit off more than I can chew. -On that note: What board are we talking about exactly? There are several jetway c7s. -Oh Gawd I just read your sig...
I don't think you can over clock the c7 at all. Anyway, it's a low heat output CPU so there is no point
And those little fans are annoying. You have to check them frequently to see if they still work. My thinking is: One fan to cool them all. just add more tubing.
The EPIA 5000 boards are marked everywhere in the manual not to overclock them, however the Jetway board(in a box on it's way to Cheaps) has whole sections on HOW TO overclock - voltages and such that are changeable from the BIOS. We'll see what Cheapskate has to say after looking at the BIOS manual. The only way I ever overclocked was to buy a newer faster rig! ROFL! John PS: I'm not going anywhere. Last time I retired, I got too bored. I'll be consulting and still here.
I gotta OC it too!?! It will probably not hurt to add a fan over the mobo for overclocking. The chips aren't the only things that would get hot. Enjoy the retirement. You seem to already be setting up entertainment.
Can't wait till I retire - hour upon hour of procrastinating, holiday planning and messing about with tech stuff... however, I'd say I have about 40 more years of career left in me When I read the title of this thread, I had to have a look around, and it appears that my Zalman northbridge block might fit perfectly over one of Via's processors... God bless pointless modding... MGT
