hey everyone, my arms hurting and i can't decide if its worth a visit to the doctors. my left shoulder has been hurting for a few months now, it feels like its the shoulder joint instead of muscular. i have the full range of motion and everything, just when i lift my arm it hurts, it feels similar when someone puts you in an armlock and twists, except it happens well withn the normal range of motion. the reason i'm hesitant to go to the doctors is A) my doctor is very Greek and almost impossible to understand and B) i just started working night crew @ safeway, and that is very physical work, i've been assuming its just me getting used to doing it. but this morning i couldn't even hold the steering wheel with my left hand @ 10 o'clock without needing my right to actually hold the wheel. its getting worse guys.
Go see a GP. If you cannot understand your Greek GP, see another GP. But if it is getting worse, you need to sort it out.
why couldn't you have become a GP? you're like House except for the head. you could have diagnosed me online. have any idea what it could be though?
NHS Direct could be worth a shot. They've been very helpful when I've called them in the past. 0845 4647 is the number. Sam
possible damage to the rotator cup etc... go to your doctor, chances are he'll refer you to someone more specialized than him
I'd love to be like House except that I would get fired ten times over... I only think the stuff that he says (although some of my colleagues would argue differently). And anyway, psychologists are supposed to be nice. I'm a psychologist (Jim), not a doctor... Could be anything. Could be referred pain from a trapped nerve in the neck (do you have neck trouble?), inflammation response associated with some infection (Feel under the weather?) osteomyelitis (bone infection), tendinitis, bursitis (repetitive strain? Do you sleep on that side, by the way?)... I'd discount gout (that hurts differently) but it could even be arthritis (doesn't happen only in old fogeys)... even (in very rare cases) cancer. Is there warmth, redness and swelling? Do you have other health symptoms like rashes, cold/flu symptoms? Did you have a recent blow to that area of the body? Do you have diabetes, or had your spleen removed at some point? I would get it checked out, because of pain and impairment in functioning alone. It is probably relatively harmless, but some of those things, if left unchecked, can develop into awkward and painful chronic problems. And checking it out is easy --one simple blood test, and you can eliminate most of the worrying stuff in one swoop.
I had what sounds like something similar a while ago. It started with a sharp pain if i raised my arm above my head and was uncomfortable while sleeping. After around six weeks it had got to the point where it was agony to move my arm, but it was fine if I kept it in one place. After finally going to the GP, he diagnosed a torn rotator cuff and gave me a bunch of anti-inflammatories; a week later the problem was only slightly better. I went back and he game me a cortisone injection and wow! My shoulder felt better pretty much instantly & has been fine since. Go see your Doc.
Just goes to show, you really do break the mould Nexxo! that was a joke, don't ban me edit: Just to agree with everyone, go see a doctor, one who can speak your language intelligibly too.
i guess i'll talk to my mom and figure out when would be the best time to go. my schedule for the next week at work comes out tomorrow, so i'll know when i can go. i was only asking here because i really am not an active person, and night crew stocking is doing squats for 8 hours while lifting things above your head. i didn't want to go to the doctor and them tell me its just because i'm finally moving more than sitting
I'd go. I ignored my shoulder until I had to have major surgery to restore use of it. Even now, the arm is smaller, weaker, and draws up to my chest. My co-workers say I'm the best cripple they've ever seen work grill. I don't wanna see somebody else get that compliment cause they were stubborn.
You asked bit-tech before you spoke with your mother? Like the old saying goes - only read the instructions when something goes wrong.. something has gone wrong - go speak to someone who can read the intructions. Perhaps a bath might help in the meantime? Or swimming - by which I mean being in a pool and moving your arm about slightly - don't go for a marathon 1500m or anything..
i take 20 minute showers on full blast (any bit-techettes wanna join?) listening to my stereo, its the best thing to calm me down after a long day at work. i reccomend streetlight manifesto or BOTAR, they're the best
WHAT? You mean I can't pretend to be a medical expert?? Ive been to university, surely that qualifies for something?? I thought everything forumites said was true and worth listening to??
