Anyone off here going down to London for deconstruction?? MXPX, Lagwageon, Pennywise, Strike anywhere, pulley & many more Skating, BMX also outside Class for £20 a ticket, Sunday 1-11 Brixton Academy If so, see you there sunday - M@
metal/hardcore/noise/extreme from someone that has that in there sign in name, doesn't really bother me, but then you say punk? Well Deconstruction is punk, not whiney crappy i love girls pop-punk, but decent real punk. Meh K its only one day, and the skate stuffs outside, I prefer indoor gigs though, seen as the weathers a bit ****ty - M@
I have to agree with mook though, the only band I'd be interested in seeing there is Strike Anywhere and maybe Pennywise. The rest is pretty poor. I mean, MXPX and Pulley? Yikes. It was pretty neat in Finsbury Park a couple of years ago... Would have been even better if they had a really good headliner like NoFX though. Have a good time either way
Decent real punk? Yeah okay whatever you say. Don't see what my sig has to do with it though... Personally I'm sure the only people that are interested in this years line up will be quite content based on whatever queer brand of punk Kerrang sells to them. It's pretty amusing that Lagwagon and Pennywise are headlining yet again. Talk about dull.
Kerrang steers away from pennywise, MXPX, strike anywhere etc so I dont know what the **** your going on about?? Kerrang steers more towards new age screaming punk/em, like NFG's new album or blinks new one, or crappy pop punk like good charlotte etc, ive never seen them talk about older punk. Apart from in 1990's when kerrang was actually an interesting read. Its MXPX headlining in the first place also, and lagwagon are only playing two of the shows, so there not headlining, only on for the ride . Only newish pop punk band there is yellowcard, and there not even playing the london show. So find out what the hell your ranting on about before you quickly assume punk means kerrang **** or have a listen to strike anywhere... Yeah K, strike anywhere will be class, anti flag and MXPX should be fun too. Lagwagon and pennywise are still worth seeing anyways, specially if Lagwagon play some of there old stuff, as they covered all there new stuff in the tour last year...still not bad for £20, thats £2 a band (look at me the maths genius...) - M@
Heh, mook got me into Strike Anywhere... Just for the record Anti-Flag too? I'd have mentioned a quality band like that over Pulley dude
MXPX, Pennywise, Lagwagon, Anti-flag, Beatsticks, slackers, strike anywhere, pulley, 1208, the movement - There thats the lineup Yeah K, just named a random few off who was playing, anti flag completly slipped my mind Hmm, i take back the strike anywhere comment then if mook already heard em, just dont like all punk been labelled Kerrang.. - M@
Not saying all punk is Kerrang so don't throw your rattle out the pram. As for pop-punk... um Lagwagon? Pulley? MXPX? As for "Kerrang steers more towards new age screaming punk/em, like NFG's new album or blinks new one, or crappy pop punk like good charlotte etc, ive never seen them talk about older punk"... Blink 182 and NFG personify pop-punk. I don't know why you're getting so narked about it anyway. Deconstruction has been going downhill for years now and I am merely voicing the same opinion that you will see all over the net about this subject. It's hardly a controversial point of view.
Too true - first one was a wonderful day out, specially with NOFX doing the headline stint. Second was the absolute pits - London Arena bereft of any kind of organisation, no friggin air conditioning and no refreshments whatsoever - plus all those total dickheads who started the bottle fight should have been castrated - if i hadnt been totally blown away by Boy Sets Fire, i might have asked for my money back. Third in Hyde Park was a good day out, with a great set from the Bosstones and the wonderful sight of Lostprophets being bottled to death Oh, and the only time ive ever been able to catch the excellent skewed punk sounds of ALL in a live setting.... My kid sister's first festival as well, so special significance for her ever-loving big brother Now im just not bloody interested - it seems like the financial backers arent either. Brixton Academy will totally kill any kind of vibe, just like it did for NOFX a few weeks ago. Indoors is not the way to go, poor lineup or not.... Enjoy yr day out tho, M@ - hope u have a good time. My creaky old knees just dont crack it in a crowd that size anymore
Oh hell, my bad. Fields all look the same to me. Grass...... more grass - at least there wasnt any sh*t in this particular one Bosstones were great tho - considering i totally loathe everything theyve recorded, they won me over with their enthusiasm. Still cant bear to listen to their records tho....
my borther is working there this year, doing loads of sound work and stuff! as he's a sound technician! cool eh ? i might have gone had i known about it before like 1 month ago! and dint have exams this week!
Well was a good gig, got there to find that No Comply would be the opening band First on - No Comply : Relatively small band compared to some of the bands playing this year, but a great opener, got the crowd going more than some of the american bands, good songs, and good vocals (some female singers (Brodie) have skanky gravel voices that sound crappy). 7/10 Next up - The Movement : To be honest the lets dress in suits thing has been done to many times in my opinion, but not much room to be origional now really... Still got to give it to them, they managed to play a 30 minute + set and kept there jackets on, there were ok, didnt really settle on any particular style, went from mod to ska-punk. 5/10 1208's - Cant remember much of them, seemed ok, more punky than the movement, still nothing outstanding about them. 6/10 Strike anywhere - Pure class, seemed half the people there went just to see them, whole crowd went crazy amazing set, even AntiFlag decided to get in on the action and come help with the last song. 9/10 Pulley/Red Tape - Didnt see them, spent over an hour in the queue for clothing etc, eventually managed to get strike anywhere hoodie and No Comply Tshirt, absolutly horrendous queue, pushing/fighting etc. ##/10 Beatsteaks - Quite good, more of a crowd pleaser band than an actual talent band, good Misfits cover, and funny stunt where he crowdsurfed (literally surfed) on a guitar hardcase. 7/10 The Slackers _ New York Jazz/ska band, quite funny good musicians, and hilarious skanking on stage, bit boring though, and way too hippy lovey love the world etc. 5/10 Anti-Flag - Very good, had the usual mohawk crowd there to see them, good set, but as always way to much love/peace anti george Bush preaching and too little playing, but with such a political band, what do you expect, good to see live, heavier live than on CD. (Thomas Barnett also decided to come sing on there finale). 8/10 MXPX - Another good crowd pleaser, but the stuff they played off the new album was way to generic and done before, they concentrated more on playing there classics which was good, still a good band to see live , didnt realise how much Mest seem to have ripped them off until I heard them. 7/10 Lagwagon - Didnt see them when they did there last tour, but jesus christ they look old now, and you could tell they were exhausted this been the final night of deconstruction, there first song opened well and went down well with the crowd, then they seemed to go downhill until about 3 songs from the end, the lead singer was his usual overly sarcastic hilarious self, getting pissed off because the crowd didnt really care about them, and were conserving there energy for pennywise I guess. Played some tracks off Duh which was pleasing, and gave there best. 7/10 Pennywise - Excellent live, obvious they would do a cover of something from the charts, I was expecting the "99 problems but my bitch aint one" But got a nice Outkast - Hey ya cover which got the crowd going well and was done pretty well. Played a few covers, and got a drunkard up on stage, who just danced like a faggot instead of singing. Then did there usual finisher - Bro hymn where all the bands (and the drunken guy from before) came on and sang. 9/10 All in all a good night, but should have of been outside as way to hot inside (with 4000 people there especially) nice crowd there, download was on the same day, so kept the 12 year old's away at least, still was some 14 year old in slipknot t shirt and korn hoodie trying to start a pit when everyone was trying to watch and have a good time... All in all definatly worth the £20 entry, clothing prices were still outrageous though and the drink prices, but no different to Birmingham acadamy. The affiliated pub/bar outside was quite nice, and cheaper though. - M@ (shame the day after didnt go as well (today) Mates car got impounded in London and gave us an exciting time of trying to find the impound lot and a nice £200 fee...
