I am, and to be honest, I've seen a great many people banned from here for less than that. Bit takes a hard line on piracy, and I for one agree with it.
Then i hope Bit Tech immediately cuts all ties from here on in with Switzerland, i recommend blocking the entire web site and any form of media distribution to that lawless den of pirates. Oh i should probably include this report IF anyone is actualy interested in why they have essentially green lighted internet piracy. Report of the Federal Council of Switzerland Titled Unauthorized Use of Works Over the Internet http://translate.googleusercontent....-d.pdf&usg=ALkJrhhETCYmADJTRPoPMTesndy2zasAYQ Pirates i say, every damned one of them.
I wouldn't have an issue with someone getting banned for doing something like sharing links to pirated software/media or recommending others to pirate over buying, but this guy just mentioning that he download books for free is harmless. Who was banned for less than just mentioning that they pirate? I mean, I pirate stuff too
Let's not turn this into a piracy thread... there's three going already as it is. My point was: Do not barge onto a forum with a long standing anti-piracy policy, and not only announce yourself as a pirate, but make the assumption that we all are.. then go on to inform us you will be not paying for any of your e-books. Bit is strictly anti-piracy, and is usually very harsh on anyone advocating, promoting or admitting that they are actively participating in piracy. If you want to keep on mentioning that you are actively pirating software, then be prepared. If you care to define piracy, it may make your position a little clearer though. If you mean only that you make copies of your own legally obtained material for back up, well that's one thing. If you mean you don't pay for your software, films or music and download it all illegally, then so far as I'm concerned, you deserve to be banned. Allowing people to say they download books illegally is not harmless at all. It sets a precedent that Bit will turn a blind eye to such behaviour so long as it's not partisan to the activity itself. Plus, it sets a bad example to new, and often young members. Be thankful I'm no longer a moderator.
I just cannot see why you would pirate books. You can get so many good books for free in e-format and regular books are so cheap! I can see why people torrent music, the record labels are pointless in this day and age and it really grates on me that they charge so much. E-books are cheaper than physical books (reflecting the reduced production costs). Do MP3's take the same line? No.
