That white space saves bit a fair amount of bandwidth so don't blast it too much. Would be nice if the backgrounds were available to download though.
Wait... you mean people actually use the dark theme ? Crap ! That means my avatars always look like crap ! (I don't use transparency because the filesize is way too small here, which means I just use the same color as the background of the forum) meh ! As for the image, I only see it under the banner at the top of the forum and when I load a new page. I don't mind it
I use the dark theme I also run the forums full width, so it took me a few days to even notice. Now I have noticed, I like it I think regular changes would be good for the backgrounds. How about a monthly competition to design it?
I run the normal theme, with the full width. Hardly changes anything, though I tend to like lighter forums and websites. Something about the dark, gritty tech site look just puts me off.
It does change every month. It's the cover picture from the subscriber's edition of Custom PC. Sometimes with a bit of a filter effect or something.
I prefer dark backgrounds to be honest. My background on is dark, so the white seems even brighter. I do run the forums full width and with a dark theme, but still to bright. Nah, pic still looks good.
Same here. When will people learn? Borders should never be brighter than the central picture lest you want a good headache. This was a recurrent problem in the good old days of 8-bit computers in which the screen had a central area surrounded by a border that could be set to one colour of its limited palette. Most programmers had the common sense to set it to black, or at least a dark colour. Occasionally it would be set to light blue or cyan or something equally unhelpful.
I think it's a spiffy example of macro photography It also doesn't seem too bright to me, but I do use colour-calibrated screens. Most LCDs are set way too bright (400+ lumen instead of 140-ish) by default.
I use a CRT and even when f.lux is running in the evenings it's making me snowblind at the bottom of the screen. I just do not like white backgrounds. My website has a white background, but I never look at it
I agree that it's "too white", but that is the popular trend these days. Look at Facebook, Twitter, DeviantArt and other social network sites. Off-white/other light colours = wintastic.
Seriously? I have really been abusing the Mail Merge tool then... Does this mean I need to write one of those Face Books now?
Only if you want to talk to people you don't really care enough about to talk to in other capacities!
I much prefer light backgrounds and interfaces over the dark ones I especially am puzzled by the recent shift to dark grey on light grey UIs in applications like After Effects, 3DS Max, Photoshop and so on. It's like they're trying to make us poor artists blind or so @_@
Color calibration have nothing to do with it, really. I have mine set at 120lumens, but I still find it bright. Ambient light levels have far more impact on how bright a site feels. Or rather the ratio between display brightness and ambient light. The color of the ambient light also have an effect on how you precieve the color on your screen. Remember that. The grey backgrounds are great because they are neutral. I believe that's why they leave everything grey. Never versions of adobe Flash viewer have a very nice UI. (Even darker grays) To bad the installer itself is ****!.
