I'm far more inclined to celerbrate xmas and new year since meeting the now wife, her family all get together have a good feed, play games and just have a good time. My family used to be very hectic and it was too much hassle. This year I get a year off though due to an operation that will put me in a wheelchair all of December, feel sorry for the Mrs, she wants to go out but wants to look after me
Around Christmas I usually end up meeting up with friends that are normally away. I also get to have an incredible meal. But I don't have a tree or decorations or any of that. I don't really care about the present side of things either. Anything I would like is too expensive to ask for. PC hardware or a decent office chair for example. Its always a chore to try and get something for someone else as well.
I'm not too keen on New Years as I'm not particularly the outgoing & social type of person, I'll celebrate the end of the year in the peace of my own home with family but I don't watch any special TV programmes or go out into the street to watch fireworks and yell to nobody. Christmas on the other hand, I quite enjoy. It's a fun family holiday when I get my whole family around and we get to watch as my niece and nephew get excited at every little thing. Plus I love redesigning my house, so putting up decorations for a couple of weeks and then re-arranging the entire house in the clean up is always good fun for me.
Christmas, nothing more than an acronym for stuff your face with expensive food and amazon gift card round robin season.
It only feels like Christmas, if ... very young children are running around playing with empty cardboard boxes and ignoring the gifts that were in them. I like going to places that are all christmas'ed up, but enjoy even more coming home to a normal house (except cards are still put up). New Year sucks.
Bah humbug indeed. I usually go to my Dads house for an Xmas meal, but beyond that I have zero interest- my 4 y/o nephew gets gifts because... he's 4, but the rest of the family don't really care either; you keep your money, I'll keep mine kinda deal...
Christmas as a 'spend time with family, eat drink and be merry' type affair = Christmas as the 'spend money you don't have on **** you don't need for people you don't like' mass panic it has become = **** right off... New year = You want me to pay *how much* to freeze my ass off to watch some fireworks and drink vastly overpriced booze with a bunch of eedjits [then have to walk home as there's no buses/metros and good fecking luck getting a taxi]... or I could watch the same fireworks from my sitting room window for free. Do kinda celebrate new year... only do it at chinese new year... it's *much* cheaper
This is basically my view on it. It's nice to know that for those few days, in our case, we have time off and are able to get together, plus it was my Grandfather's birthday so it's time for a bit of rememberance too. As a commercial exercise? Well. It keeps old Shirty's employers going!
Because you don't moan enough EDIT: So that's what coronation chicken in a baguette looks like after being sick! Thanks for the avatar warning
Right then, I'm going to implement a staggered increase in moaning this Jesus Christmas, which might culminate in arson.
I like Christmas. I get to spend a good solid few days with my parents and sisters, probably more so than I do any other time of the year so that's nice. I like the eating, I like the chocolate. it's a good time to get together and see the family. Plus I normally take a week off work or so, and there isn't many times in the year that I get a whole unbroken week off work .
I fell out of love with christmas a long time ago. I think the last time I had a christmas dinner was 2001 or thereabouts, which was also the last time I spent it with company. I have been known to utter the words "Was that today?" on the 25th of Dec. New Years means nothing to me other than an annual reminder that I do not yet own a personal jet pack or flying car.
are you me? I never really did Xmas as all my family were in the pub/restaurant trade and had to work. We might eventually sit down about Feb. The missus and I will get gifts.... but thats about it!
Said it before and I'll say it again. If I ever see that old fat fart I'll shoot him and turn his reindeer's into biltong. Hate Christmas and it isn't even really a religious holiday. No one's bible was he born in December even It's a pagan holiday. New years is just an excuse to get drunk. Do not accept gifts or cards and my staff know not to give me anything. In my house we do not celebrate it at all. Neither does my son as he puts it, it's just a money making scheme. Him and I are both in retail so that increases the hate for it.
I used to not give a damn, as I worked in retail and it was no real difference to me compared to any other time of the year, except people are more panicky and its a hell of a lot busier. this year I am not working in retail and will have a decent amount of time off for once So I am a bit more excited about it than I have been for the past 3 years, but I don't care about xmas as much as i did when I was younger. sure I do enjoy the christmas markets here in manchester, and the amazing food I get at my parents place but overall I just like having a few days off with my family so that I can chill, eat and drink
