I need more PCI slots :'( If I could afford a new motherboard I could sort myself out fine by getting something with 4 ide channels onboard and LAN. Currently I have this setup:

    AGP - PNY GeForce4 Ti4200
PCI1 - Unused (soon to be TV card)
    PCI2 - D-Link 10/100 NIC
    PCI3 - Matrox Millenium II
    PCI4 - Belkin USB2.0
PCI5 - RAIDcard (****ty one, just use for extra channels)

And even the slot at the very bottom (only 5 PCI slots on this board) is used by the motherboard's 2 extra USB ports :sigh:

Thank god for onboard sound. As I said, if I could get a new motherboard I'd be fine, since I could get one with LAN, USB2.0 and the extra IDE channels thus freeing up 3 slots, 1 of which could be used for a half-decent sound card.

    Nevermind :(

I have a cheapie mobo, just the 3 slots :( and theyre all full, with a hauppage winTV, cheapie NIC, and DPT SCSI card. Luckily i dont really need any more cards! I am going to upgrade when i have the money, which isnt goin to be any time soon :( unfortunately, so i can hopefully get onboard LAN, and some more slots so i have some room for expansion hehe :D

I have a half-decent board. It's an MSI KT3-Ultra (okay, so not THAT decent really) but with my slots all getting full I could do with something a bit more recent like an Asus A7N8X Deluxe for the onboard USB2/LAN/RAID.

I reckon I'll end up holding out until the Athlon64 comes out before I upgrade my system properly though, so I'll just have to put up with crappy sound for now.

/me hasn't used any PCI slots yet... (NForce 2 Mobo, so it's got the basic stuff, to get me started, built in...)

Adding in a Ti 4800 SE tomorrow though, so that's the AGP slot gone. Planning on adding a good sound card in as well... but that still leaves me with 3 PCI free...

OMG LOL :) Yeah :p Maybe I could mod my NIC and USB2 ports together, they're both small cards :) Bit of glue and they'll be fine.

Not if I used a dremel :dremel:

Heh, seriously though, it does really suck quite badly since I'm left with my awful onboard sound, plus all those shared IRQs can't be a good thing surely :eyebrow:

I know the solution get another pc, that way you can share the duties like I do on my pcs, one is a htpc the other is a games machine, another is used for downloading etc. that way you will have enough slots :D

But surely it'd just be cheaper and easier to get a new motherboard than a whole second computer :)

You could always get a nforce2 board, loads of the stuff will be on the motherbaord itself then?

If I could afford a new motherboard then maybe, but I can't :( nForce2 would be nice for the onboard LAN and USB2, plus some have decent sound too. Nevermind :(

Mind you, if you can find a bidder for your motherboard and all the pci cards you could almost afford a new board
