Frikkin jeeeeezzz its just so-damn-slow. I can type at least twice as fast as i can write by hand, yet my frikkin lecturers want lab books written by hand *******s. Its taking forever. Also, we arent allowed to type our note in lecture but its not too bad cause im so used to revising off scruffy notes. Im sure im not the only one, but i just thought id vent and share with a crappy GD thread EDIT: Its the same with reading, its soo frikkin slow. I want a to plug the info straight in.
I agree. I can type as fast as I can speak... albeit with typos, but that's what spellcheck is for. Pity VBulletin doesn't have one. Colleges insisting on manuscript is a little dated, especially for a lab book, or log etc.
Agreed, some people's handwriting is just damn stupid, totally illegible. At least with typing, it's all uniform and legible (unless using Webdings font or similar)
Same here, type alot faster.. and more readable aswell.. lol but we can type everything.. they even appreciate it.. with don't have to write anything by hand, except for exams... L
Ive got todo both - hand in a typed dissatation with my project group and also show i can keep a lab book!? The problem being, noone can so we write notes in the lab book, type them up, get a new lab book and copy back what we've typed so its neat enough to hand in. Stupid BS system.
ill aggree with this i can tyoe much faster than i can write, and its also about 100% more legible! my geog teacher asked how i could type faster than i could write! obvious u dont spend time makign silly squiggles with said hand, just tap some keys. oh well. ill wait till ican get a laptop.
Personally I hate typing stuff up. My a-level electronics teacher insists we do our projects in word/whatever which really gets on my tits.
my words exactly i can type over 100 wpm (words per minute) thats if i know what i want to type in my head if im copying it say off a paper its more like 70 wpm do you know how many words i can write per minute about 20 its very interesting to see how many words you can write perminute if you want a averege or just a estimate for an averege set a timer for five minutes write all you can write and divide it by five if you want an estimate set the timer for one minute no its not the same you will be suprized at the diffference
writing can be fun, heres how Aquire yourself an Ipaq or a Portege 3500 tablet pc then start scribling the Ipaq has the best writing recognition in the world, i truly believe its bloody telpathic as i know Pies has crap hand writing and it can understand it lol. back on topic - Im ok at writing i can do a fair few words a minute but not using a pen and paper all day every day like my PC i can obviously type faster then i can type this is the case for all of you i presume. Due to no using the instrament you don't have the skills to use it to ist full potental, if you lernt short hand and use'd every day im sure ppl that use pen/paper every day can write just as fast as we can type. I can also type damn quick straight from my head about 140+wpm if i really try average around 100-120 i supppose, i hate typing from paper cause i can't read very quickly im really slow due to visual imparment i find if someone dictats the information i can type faster then they can read it lol. morgan.
Has anyone tried ViaVoice etc? I tried once... it was crap. Little point if you're fast... just thought it may be useful for those lazy moments.
My handwriting sucks, i can type pretty fast, apart from at school all the computer people were stupid so we never actully typed anything First Lesson: We will lean how to open Microsoft Word 2004 and write a few lines to learn the keys Second Lesson: Were going to advance a bit more this lesson, were going to learn how to open and close windows
Heh, my teachers can barely read my handwriting, so they let my type my last english exam Typing is just so much more efficient - just raw speed is faster, plus you can go back and change anything you want! Finished the exam in half the time and spent the rest trying to get round the school security to change the refresh rate up from 60Hz
how to close windows and never open it again works with windows 98 and lower go to dos prompt and type format c: this will fix all your problems with windows as for scholl securety features man those were funny i got so good at it (you know all the security settings in windows are just registry hacks) that i made a simple program that i put on a floppy when i got on the computer i stick the floppy in the program would undo all the security features and then when i leave when the floppy get ejected every thing goes back to the way it was it worked so good that they didn't have a clue
True, but if you slowed down a bit it might make more sense and you'd have less typos I'm afraid I have to disagree with the rest of you, I don't mind writing stuff by hand. And lab books should always be hand written. They are meant to be for taking notes as you go along, not for writing it all up at the end! They are more of a journal than a single piece of work. As for scruffy lecture notes, if it bothers you why not type them up when you get home from lectures? Cheers Sam
I never had to do this. My school liked me so much, I had access to everything. Mostly because I helped them install and configure the network, in addition to making the presentation that got them the $750k to buy everything and set it up. But, as a going away present to the uber-b**** who they hired my senior year to be the "Tech-Coordinator", I re-formatted the mainframes and servers.
I hate writing things out by hand. I remember complaining a lot in first year at high school when we were told our first essays were to be hand written since hardly anyone had computers. Ever since then though, everything has been typed up. My handwriting is awful and always has been - at work we have to keep logs of each conversation as it goes (bank call centre) and sometimes I can't even read my own numbers so I have to keep going back screens to check what is wrong
I praise the lord we can write. Microsoft Word would only lose/corrupt/delete/overwrite/destroy the document. Computers in general are unreliable and usually do half-baked jobs. At least you can trust your pen and hand.
In electrical engineering our lab book had to be handwritten as it contained every little idea, rough working and things we noticed during lab work. It would be totally inpractical to have a laptop or whatever around with you. They also frowned upon rewriting stuff as when you do this you usually change things a little, it should really be a first and last copy, save the neat stuff for the report...
I cant write worth a darn. I haven't hand written anything since grade 7. Well, grade 8, I did half a page. The teacher saw my writing and asked if I could print it, by hand. As for ms word, I HATE it... that stupid paper clip just would not go away in Office XP. I disabled it and everything in options and all that junk. After a bit of typing, I had to make a reference to a website. Evil/ignorant paper clip popped up if I wanted to create a webpage with ms front page. Well, firstly, NO. and Secndondly, I use either Notepad or Vi. sometimes I use Homesite, but rarely. As for typing speed, I can type in paswords over 180 wpm. Yet, ask me to read off a peice of paper and my wpm goes down to like 20wpm. Its really sad I think. I even only type with two-thre fingers. and my thumb. I never actually learned to type properly. Oh well. I am starting to type properly when using linux, and installing/configuring stuff. hehe, I also noticed that most of the people on thi spage, including me used poor english (typos, grammer, spelling, etc.) And yet, in other threads, the gramer, etc. seems fine. Maybe its cause this subject was on english, and writing, therefore I picked stuff like that out a bit more.
If you want to check the spelling of your posts and you use IE then get IE Spell. Very handy. Thank god I don't have to write my reports by hand. Would be a bit stupid on a computer sicence course.
