I am looking at putting led in a clear 120mm fan and was wondering has anyone got a guide as to how to do this? Also with the 80mm fans that have a LEDs there is a kind of tape going round the edge can you buy that from say maplins if so whats it called?
You can check my prgress here. Unfortunately, due to the exams, i haven't been able to finish it. There's supposed to be a led in every corner finally. Don't know yet how i'm going to connect them, but probably with just some wire. Oh, and when you drill holes for the leds, make sure they are lined up with the side of the fan, so the leds would glow straight down, not towards the center. I believe it gives more light that way. the process of addint LEDs to a fan is not too difficult.. drill your holes at partial depth of the plastic (you can go to full depth.. ie: drill through the fan shell, BUT MAKE SURE that the LED's don't interfere with the fan blades) as for the tape used, it don't think it really matters.. here ar two ideas on the tape theory.. 1. you can just wire your LEDs and cover the edges with any non-conductive tape you please (eg. electrical tape.. comes in many colors 2. you can use, what i'll refer to as, copper tape. put a strip of this conductive tape going all the way around the outside edge of the fan, and connect the LED leads (in parallel) the the strips of copper tape, then (back to step one) wrap the whole thing in a non conductive tape ... copper tape is a thin strip of copper with glue on one side (ideed, like a piece of tape) a little idea...
