I've got a standard HD44780 4x20 LCD, connected to a parallel PCI-card, using Vista 64Bit but i cant get it to work. "port95nt" doesn't work, due to 64bit.

Due to the great lack of details, I don't follow...
All nearly all PCI-E video cards has 2 display plugs (VGA and/or DVI). These tow plugs allows you to attach 2 monitors.
If you don't have such video card, then I have to conclude that probably your video card is too old for Vista or even XP to begin with.

Thats a good question... is there no software the runs in 64 bit? What about LCD smartie? or is it the fact that its parallel and not usb that your having issues?

I'm talking about a standard HD44780 4x20 LCD like this one:

And its connected to a parallel PCI-card like this one (i don't got an on-board parallel port):

    http://www.sunix.com.tw/it/en/Product_Detail.php?cate=2&class_a_id=303&sid=479

Using a factory made cable like this one:

The problem is the old "port95nt" port driver, don't support vista 64bit only 32bit, so I'm asking if there are another way, to make a LCD like this one work under vista 64bit.

You will need to install port95nt software, this software provides access to the parallel port, but the problem is that its doesn't support vista 64bit.

Your porblem is not Vista 64-bit... it's the company that made the product of yours and are too stupid to see that the future is 64-bit. You should never buy anything else form them, ever again...

It's not the company's fault, it's a generic HD44780 LCD, they have nothing to do with the software. The port95nt was a parallel port driver written for Windows 95 and NT so it's lucky it even works with XP, it's got nothing to do with the company he bought the LCD from. The fact is that any driver needs to be specifically written for Vista x64 because it will only accept signed drivers by default, it's not like XP where you could get away with using an old driver.

A tad harsh, don't you think? Seeing as it's not the hardware manufacturers fault. It's a driver issue.

My sound card drivers and printer drivers are unsigned. XP 64-bit drivers should work for Vista 64-bit.

I'm not sure about your LCD problem, but as for drivers:

Disabling the requirement for signed drivers in Vista x64:
    1- Reboot
    2- press F8
    3- boot into commandprompt
    4- type "bcdedit /set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS"
    5- reboot

    or

1- Run "gpedit.msc" (Group Policy Editor)
    2- User Configuration
    3- Administrative Template
    4- System
    5- Driver Installation
6- Enable "Code Signing for Device Drivers"

You should be able to install unsigned drivers now. Perhaps there is an unsigned driver that will work with your device.

    Hi,
I use the same Sunix LPT controller and I have the same problem with LCDSmartie (2x16 LCD Display). Have you fixed the problem with it?
I use Windows Vista 64bit and I have correctly installed Sunix controller driver.
Please let me know what to do it working properly.
    Thanks a lot

Did anyone ever actually manage to get a Parallel LCD working on Vista x64?

I tried Scorpia's method but to no avail.

parallel... you mean dual screen set to clone?
Sure! I did it, I also tried expending the display as well! Works on my side with my desktop video card and my laptop (Quadro NVS 160M using Vista 64-bit)

GoodBytes: No. That's not what he's talking about at all. If you'd bothered to read the thread rather than mindlessly bleating your same response, you would realise that he's talking about a HD44780 alphanumeric LCD, not a computer monitor.

Westovski, I'm afraid there doesn't appear to be a sure-fire solution. Have you tried going into your computer's BIOS and disabling ECP on the parallel port?

Yes I know about the specific display... I tough he just asked an off-topic question. Just a miss understanding.

Not tried that ch424, i'll give that a whirl when i get home though. thanks!)

(If i had the ability i'd 'unmod' this LCD and do as you guys have done with the usb version, but my electronics ability is less than limited).

Just found this thread after taking the plunge with 64-bit Vista and trying to get my Silverstone VFD to work (basically a Parallel port HD44780).

To get it working, download and install the latest LCD Smartie and then go here and download the InpOut32 binaries package listed at the bottom of the page. Unzip and run InstallDriver.exe (under Win32 directory) which should install the correct IO driver. Then copy inpout32.dll from the win32 (not x64) directory to replace the version in the LCD Smartie folder.

You should then be able to run LCD Smartie and correctly set the configuration for your display (e.g. display plugin HD44780.dll, LPT1, etc.).

    Good luck! :)
