to each their own i guess though i do remember that when i belonged to a juggling mailing list there was lots of dislike for the poi community. no idea why. just like how some jugglers go for numbers and some go for tricks. juggling 3 balls in a certain pattern can be just as difficult as learning more balls. funnily enough this thread has rekindled the juggling fire inside me. i expect ill be working my butt off for 5 again *breaks out his juggling encyclopedia book*
i've noticed that... i think jugglers have an innate insecurity and feel the need to put down poi juggling's cool, poi is/are cool i really don't understand this dislike... ...and i've very rarely heard poi people to put down juggling besides: i get to play with HOTSPINNYFIREANDCHAINS(TM) and you don't also do a little firebreathing depending on haow drunk i am/the ability of suitable ingredients i.e. - i'll do it sober with ethanol or i'll do it drunk with lighter fluid *n
Jugglers get to play with fireballs, fireclubs, programmable juggling balls, etc... My ex was a juggler and she loathed poi, it is kind of dull compared with juggling, you spin stuff and thats about it.
fireballs? you set fire to bits of material and try not to let them touch your hands for too long jugglers tend to be 'skill' bigots possibly because people see a juggler and they go 'oh, a juggler'...people see someone with flame poi and they go 'wtf...' you don't just 'spin stuff' - there are lots of different maneouvers which can be used try using one fire poi and one double-ended fire staff *n

Facts : 1. Poi is easier to learn than juggling, you spin objects attache to ropes, its as easy as making teenagers depressed. 2. There are more people who can do Poi than can juggle
both are interesting in their own way. i dont do poi but somtimes find myself doing a poi like thing with ethernet cable when im board. and if you think juggling cant be exciting i suggest you go here http://www.juggling.org/animations/demo.html and check out some of the vids there. they are a little bland because they are for educational purposes but you can get the iidea. just look at any of the vids that are the mills mess or the Rubenstein's Revenge. i can do a 3 ball mills mess and believe me it can look pretty intense and exciting when done right.
