As the title asks, does anyone here sub to Sirius satellite radio? I know that no one over in the UK does as it's not available there, I'm talking mostly to the people in N. America...

There are some big things going on starting on the 19th and was wondering if others knew about them.

Sirius is a satellite radio service that we can subscribe to. Costs $12.95 a month, but it's 100% commercial free, cd-quality (digital stream via satellite) and I can pick a station and drive from New York to California without having to change it.

Think streaming high-bitrate mp3's into your car. Kind of like that.

From what i have heard (not personally, for other people), XM has noticable better sound quality, but Sirius has much better content, but you can tell from the sound that its compressed....

Really? I sub to Sirius and have listened to XM and I really can't tell the difference in quality.

I guess we don't really need anything like that here. You can listen to all the BBC radio stations pretty much everywhere and they don't have any adverts, but it is still only radio quality.

Still I prefer to listen to my own music in the car and only turn on the radio very so often to here if theres any new music on.

Think shoutcast radio stations. It's kind of like that, there are like 80 channels all specializing in different kinds of music.

Right. For instance, some of my favorite "stations" are:

20 - Octane (my fave) -- "The Home of High Powered Rock"
... They are playing Hoobastank / Crawling in the Dark

21 - Alt Nation -- "The diverse sounds of current Alternative music"
... They are playing Smashing Pumpkins / Tonight, Tonight

23 - Big Rock -- "The best of Stadium Rock"
... They are playing Whitesnake / Slow and Easy

27 - Hard Attack -- "A nonstop barrage of music with attitude for the true Metal fan"
.. They are playing Skrape / No Respect

Go to http://www.sirius.com, click on LISTEN and the GUEST and you'll jump into a preview of what's offered.

The coolest thing about Sirius (and XM) is that they're not bound by FCC broadcast regulations as far as language and playlists go. That means that they can play the full, unedited versions of songs... In fact, I've heard teh "F Bomb" dropped a few times on Hard Attack by a "Stream Jocky".

My dad has XM... it's pretty nice.
Got 100 channels with lots of stuff playing, much better variety than regular radio.

Once I was in a car with Xilron and we heard the DJ on one of the channels making his own techno - it was really cool.

The biggest thing that I don't like about XM is that it's partially owned by Clear Channel - the same company that's responsable for FM sucking.

I usually prefer listening to my own MP3s...

I can go 34 hours without repeating a track
