I was in Maplins poassing time before work yesterday (as you do ) and I noticed they are selling EL lighting kits.. on closer inspection I noticed they had a De ja Vu inducing image on the front, a representation of an atomic particle which I reliased pretty quick was off of Cold Dog's Atmoic case. Now I couldn't see anything saying about copyright on the outside and it looked like a crappy printed image taken from one of his online pictures. I don't know the guy (heh wish I did) and the other forum he uses will only let you email people if you sign up. I think he might want to know, if at least for a chuckle or to poke them untill they send some money I'll try taking a picture on Thursday with my new Nokia 7250
The atomic symbol is pretty standard and has been around for years as a case etch.. even longer as a picture in its own right.
this was without a single doubt his it was the same EL wire design and the same green and pink wire wrap behind it.
I thought the same thing when I saw our review of it. It's definately his case... his case: http://www.planetcasemod.com/InwinS508i/anglelt.JPG http://www.planetcasemod.com/InwinS508i/window.JPG I have to believe that for a company to use a photo for their product packaging they would have worked something out with him. He is a regular contributor to pheaton.com's forums if you really feel compelled to notify him about it.
wow.. that is different (company and packaging) to the one in Maplins.. everyone is ripping him off :/ I think I found his addy and e-mailed him. No reply yet.
lets put it this way if some big corporation called you up and asked you if you would mind letting them use a picture of your case to advertise their product would you? Id charge $0.0002 a unit/
No, I haven't given any permission unless they're connected to www.beingseen.com I gave Ed (the owner) permission to use pics on his website - we never discussed packaging.... hmmm.... thx for the headsup, 273BeLow.........
Welcome to our house, Cold Dog! Sorry it had to be under fairly bogus circumstances, but we're still glad to have you. (I fixed your title for ya)
Woah, thx! Eheh, Mod God with one (now two) posts... Check out these other pics: (thx to leareth for the pics).... Eheh, a condo in Hawaii is starting to sound pretty nice...
Yet another thread that reminds me to go and update the water marks on my images. Hope you get it resolved.
Cold Dog, let's hope you can get this sorted out. Btw, welcome to this corner of the net. Watermarks are good but won't help much if you can crop the images enough to get around it. Hmm time to edit a few pics...
Depends if you like your work being stolen and sold as someone else's. Cold Dog's pictures have copyright, and it has been infringed by what appears to be more than one company.
Instead of blaming the people who don't have the common decency to ask before using someone's images?
I had some of my images ripped by a company before to help promote their window kits. Funny thing is that I didn't use a kit, it was a kustom jobbie you'll get a cookie if you can find the images
OK, well, I consulted with Ed Sunshine of www.beingseen.com...... Not that he's a lawyer or anything, but according to him, Sunbeam is a major overseas (to the US) distributor of EL and probably the supplier for Eumax. He kinda thinks that there's probably not much I can do about it since they are an overseas company. He also claimed to have given them are hard time about the images since most likely there were probably lifted from his website. Their attitude was "so what?". He thinks I could go after the online casemod stores that sell the kits and get them to stop selling it .... but I don't really want to do that... If I went after anybody, it would be the manufacturer. I really don't mind the use of the image and I'm not looking to get compensation (but it would be nice), I just don't like the idea of being "thieved upon". Just not much I can do about it, I don't think .....
AFAIK taiwan does have copyright laws. And the US, China, and Taiwan are fairly similar in their copyright laws. So there should be a way to get to the manufacturer, as great a pain in the rear it may be...
