    Hi people

I'm posting a CD to someone and the letter's about 7mm thick - the new(ish) UK post office regulations say if it's more than 5mm thick I have to pay for a "large letter". Does anyone know if it'll be OK? I don't want the person at the other end to get a £1 handling fee plus the extra postage, but nor do i want to walk all the way to the post office to buy a "large" stamp... I've just stuck a normal 1st class one on at the moment...

    Thanks

Dunno if they've got stricter since new size changes, but I used to work with a guy who'd just chuck a CD in an envelope with a stamp and it'd be fine

I think we still have a few years of 'getting our heads' round the size thing before they get stricter

They'll probably charge you for a large letter tbh. If they're not sure, they'll slide it through a plastic cutout thingy and if it don't go through, you're paying up.

On more than one occassion my lovely local post office has "attempted" to slide a letter through the slots in their little guide and decided that its too big at the first sign of resistance (ie, a padded envelope that would easily slide through with the slightest of pressure, but touches the sides)

I would say a massive 2mm discrepancy is a big fat no, but stranger things have happened.

Just put two first class stamps on it? You don't have to go to the post office and it will get delivered fine! :)

My local post office are pretty good about trying to get everything through the thinnest slot, and will use a reasonable degree of force if they think it will go. However, CD cases are not well known for being compressible, so this will probably require the next size up.

Putting two first class stamps on would be a waste of 20p, but putting 2 2nd class ones on was perfect, so I did that :) (2x24=48p)

    Thanks people

slather the envelope with melted chocolate in an attempt to bribe the postal worker?

or ship it without any jewel case. i've done it before, cds are tough.
