I've got a craftsman rotary tool that is supposed to be variable speed. (1-10, to be exact) Unfortunately, once you set it to 1, it rotates as though it is at 10... so my new variable speeds are off and 10... anyone know how to fix this? The last time I just set it all the way to 10, then brought it down, and it worked fine. Unfortunately, it didn't work this time... Any ideas? Please? -OneSeventeen GoAhead
have u been cutting metal with it? (kindof a silly question) pull it appart and clean it out metal dust could be the problem thats if u dont have warranty
Craftsman=expensive rebadge made by Dremel. I actually got 2 dremels for xmas, one was a Dremel brand and one was Craftsman. The Dremel Brand was like $40 and it came with a whole kit, and teh Craftsman was like $89 came with nothing. Craftsman has lifetime warranty, I think. Check! If it doesnt and you are going to replace, buy a Dremel brand.
haha craftsman is expensive BUT it has a lifetime warrenty. no questions asked. i bought craftsman screwdriver went home broke it in half and brought it back to see of tehy would take it and they did
It is my roomates tool, actually, and he got it replaced once, and paid about $15 for the waranty (so if we broke it again, we could return it) I just don't want to use that up if I don't have to. I may just go buy myself a dremel brand, but I'll stick with the Craftsman grinding disks.. unless they make a thinner dremel brand than what I've found around here. (the craftsman brand was able to get into tighter spaces, and make thinner cuts, and was much easeir to controll for some reason) I'll try cleaning it out and post my results. Thanks guys! (yes, it has been used to cut metal and plastic) -OneSeventeen GoAhead
make sure it doesnt need new motor brushes ... sometimes replacing them brings em right back to life ...
oddly enough i was working on my car the other day and my craftsman timing light decided to die, so i took it in thinking craftsman = lifetime warranty... well i was rudely told that its no longer on the entire name, but only hand tools, such as wrenches, screwdrivers, sockets, and any hand tool with no moving or electrical parts.. i sure wasnt a happy camper.. also sounds like the rheostat or pot or whatever that controls the speed may be overloaded or blown.. i got a old vari speed drill that did that, took it apart and the rheo was all melted inside..
same thing happened to my dremel, i took it back and they gave me a new one. i'd try that first, tell em it was a gift and you dont have receipt.
The whole craftsman thing, bought a tape measure back in 94 when i was in FL and bust it about three years later, went back last year and thought i'd give it a go, and they replaced it!! (with no receipt) Fantastic!! lol
