http://www.yamaha-audio.co.uk/pchometheatre/processor/dp-u50/ this looks incrfedably cool & it means that i can put it next to my hifi using an incredably short length of high quality interconnect & i dont want an exity before someone suggests that, im looking for something i can actualy listen to but the problem is i have tried all the usual palces but i cant find anywhere to buy it in the uk & i only have adebit card so ordering from america is a no no, im guessing it is avalable in the uk as it is on yamaha's uk site & what hifi did a review of the one with the built in amp the main reason im looking for it is i think its tiem i retire my sb16 & the pc is on the other side of the room so i cantafford that lenght of quality interconnect & all the decoding on this is done outside the box so less interference please help Sam
sam...that says it all....it connect via usb making your pc extra laggy in case of you using it for games and you using anythin else on the usb ports... it probably aint bad, and it will only use a bit of your cpu, but most definatly a bit... also...sound wise yamaha aint that great unless used in home cinema as they produce a clinical sound...
but i dont play any games whatsoever on my pc, the hardest thing it has to do is ud & winamp, im pretty simple in the tasks my machine runs but what i do to my machine is another case, i dot think yamaha sounds clinical fo my mindisc recorder is anything to go by i think it has a more relaxed & layed back feel & with the type of music i listen to that is needed Baaaaddddlllyyy needed, the only other thig im my usb port is my microsoft optial mouse but that cna be put on my overclocked ps2 mouse port easily (made the ps2 port refesh as may times as a usb port does so it get a smooth cursor action), but like i said i dont care if it takes some cpu time during use as when im not suing it simply switch it off so the machine unlaods the drivers
slipknot, korn ,nine inch nails, 2pac, queens of the stoneage, l7 & my system is already a bit on the bright side & to be honest i really like what i have heared about this so far (from reviews in america & of its bigger brother with built in amp in what hifi) that & it will make recording to the pc easier as i thas phono inputs (take that riaa)
i got a live drive so i already have phono input... compared to other amps such as the a85 or the 3.2 pre and power it does sound very very clinical and not natural at all... but then again it does depend on your setup....
my setup is a technics scdv250 & i currently have an sb16 so anything wouls be a step up the evoloutionary ladder, plus running interconnects right round my room is not working as i am getting serious interference no matter what i do (my room is a extention & we all kno how well they are put together) that is why i am looking at this as i can runa data cable over & ive never had problems with data cables getting interference, its eather one of these or an exidgy save me before i buy an exidgy
