Forgive me....I have been lurking here for months, watching the different mods and such. I am an automotive artist by trade. Mainly my work is in airbrushing on various mediums and custom automotive applications. I have been doing some work lately on steel that involves cutting the steel with 80 grit Rolok discs, then spraying kandy colors over the scarred metal. It produces a very VERY neat effect on steel, and I've been experimenting with aluminum lately. I am not sure if they make aluminum computer cases, but if they do, does anyone here have one that they would would like to have kandied, or does anyone know where I can purchase an 'average' aluminum case from so that I could put some work on? I could TIG one together if I had to..but if I remember right, my first computer (a 'Tandy') had either an all steel or all aluminum case. So there have to be SOME out there....anyways... I'm sure there are more lurkers like me out there...keep up the great work guys. There are those of us unspoken ones that just watch in awe. The 'hopper 'Grashopr@mchsi.com'

What is the best overall airbrush kit/set. Or piece by piece what ae the best to get? I've been working with airbrushing and I've been looking to buy a new set. Any thoughts? As for the aluminum cases. . .. get one from Lian-Li or Coolermaster. but from those brands you might have trouble finding one that is around $60 . . .
Thanks for the replies! I would recommend you check out www.bearair.com, if you dont have a compressor or anything, you can use any household compressor with a good drier/filter and a hand-twist type of regulator. Unless you are doing something that requires 'extremely' clean air and 'extremely' precise airpressure adjustments, I wouldn't bother with a 'dedicated' airbrush compressor. I've been airbrushing for nearly a decade. I started out with a used dental compressor, then went to one of those 2hp horizontal "Wal-Mart Special" compressors on wheels with the 15 gallon tank that sits horizontal. I used that up until a couple of years ago when it died...then I just ran the line from my autobody compressor (140gal 5hp dual stage monster) to my airbrush manifold. I regulate it at the manifold and at the line....so it's 'way' down. As far as airbrushes..if you aren't planning on doing photo-retouching or extreme murals....I use a Thayer and Chandler Vega 2000 for 80% of my airbrushing. Their 'Kit' runs about $50 US., and comes with three different sized needle/head assemblies for spraying everything from super wide for backgrounds to super-thin for some minor detail work. After I rough in what i"m doing with the Vega, the last 20% of my work is done with Iwata HP-series airbrushes and an Iwata Custom Micron for final finish work. Iwata's are a bit on the pricey side, and really are too finicky for anyone who's not going to use them everyday. But they have the best line consistency if you know how to thin your paint correctly and run your regulator well.
