I'm thinking of splashing the cash on a Dwarf 3 "telescope" (it's not actually a telescope, it's a very specialised camera in a PTZ body), and was wondering if anyone had any experience with one? Reviews are generally positive, though it's hard to find ones that sound like the person actually knows what they're talking about (one I read described its ability to photograph "deep-sky objects, like the sun and moon"(!)) Things I already know: You ain't seeing planets with this thing, or at least not as more than a bright dot in the sky. The wide-angle sensor is fixed-focus, for some reason. Apparently setup and first connection is a right pain, but it seems mostly reliable once it's set up. I'd be using it for a range of tasks. Obviously, I fancy playing with some astrophotography - though the back garden ain't going to be ideal for that, given that I'm surrounded by two-story buildings and trees and can only see some of the sky plus the light pollution's a problem. I'd like to think that I could go for a jaunt somewhere a little more open and dark, but with two kids that doesn't seem likely! I also fancy using it for the gigapixel panorama mode, but the only example of its use I can find is on Dwarflab's own website - and it wasn't *fantastic*, as it was pretty blurry when you zoomed right in. It'd also be fun just using it as a general-purpose terrestrial scope. We're going on a seaside holiday in summer, and the idea I could point it at the horizon and snap shots of the boats going past is nice. There's birding, too, complete with auto-tracking - but, again, the only examples I can find of that are from Dwarflab itself. Anyone had any hands-on experience with one?
There's a thread over on stargazers, not sure if you've seen it https://stargazerslounge.com/topic/435192-dwarf-3-2025-model/ Images better than I was expecting TBH although I get the feeling some people have found it a bit fiddly getting grips with. Will have to have a look when I've shaken this latest flu, looks an interesting piece of kit
