mine is like a paper hole puncher. you holed the tool 90 degrees from the panel and a little head has an angled blade that comes down when you squeeze the handles... it essencially "bites" (or nibbles ) a very clean rectangular piece of the metal. It makes a very clean/controllable cut but only cuts about 1/8" at a time so your nibbling away for a while which is why I recommend this tool for small/detailed jobbies.
Sounds really useful actually. I'd assumed that they worked like 'snips', but the punching thing sounds great! Do you have much trouble lining one punch up with the next? Can you get a decent straight line with one of these things? Oh yeah, the most important question of all, available in the UK?
Sorry, I know they're available in the UK Link previously posted by Kna, but stupidly missed by dumb ol' me
I've been looking at those for a while. The best place that I've found to buy them is Ebay. You could also look into the air-powered nibblers if you have a compressor (also pretty cheap on Ebay). That would be better on your hands eddie.
The ones I have act like scissors, but imagine three blades, with the central one moving opposite to the outer two.. You then cut the metal like you're using scissors. so it's almost too easy to get a straight line.
I hate those kind, got the same crap from radio hack.. got my winder about half done with it before i had the worst blisters ever.. halfway thru the second window it broke, then i got the other kind.. much better.. harbor frieght also has pnumatic ones should you have a compressor.. -scoob8000
