I might try that myself. I am doing a sponsored walk soon, and need the GPS for around 6-7 hrs. The extra juice should come in handy, as I have been worried about a flat battery 5hrs in. I read that the GPS function is the N°.1 battery drainer for the Hero.

I was thinking about reflashing mine soon anyways, so looks liek i will be able to reflash it with the proper rom.

    Thanks for the heads up.

EDIT: Strange, I have Android 2.1 but my Software number is 3.32.405.1, I guess it is to do with the added things from Orange.

Have you considered a device that takes AA batteries as a booster?

I have an emergency charger that I was hoping to use, one where you charge it from the mains, and then use that via USB to charge the phone on the move. But it doesn't give the phone a good charge. I was told that the charger I am using is more for lower mA products. I will try and see what I can find though with the AA battery booster, thanks:thumb:

My Orange Hero was updated last week, the OTA was waiting for me when I woke. The OTA was 3mb ish, and then it asked to download 80mb or so.

2.1 uses more system memory, and isnt faster really, but the GUI improvements are good, and voice navigation is awesome.

I may have missed it but I'll list it anyway

    Free
    Pandora - Internet radio station
Aquarium Free - Live wallpaper, very cool but sucks battery like crazy
AndroidVNC - VNC remote desktop, I could only get it to work on a wifi local network connection for some reason
Backgrounds - A huge list of high res backgrounds. It seems to pull them off of a flickr group that is just for android backgrounds
Remotedroid - Basicily turns your screen into a touchpad, with buttons to control your PC.
Wizard Memo - Memo taker, works pretty good and has a voice to text feature
GPS Status - Shows sat data and has a compass.

    Games
    Robo Defense - Strategy game
Sand Blaster - Its like 'The sand game'. This one chomps power too

Thats all I got so far that I like :)

Thanks to those that posted there apps too, some in there that are really cool. :D

have you by any chance turned off the "Ask me" setting under > connect to PC in the settings menu so that it does the default action of charging?
the only time I've had an issue connecting it was due to a dodgy usb cable so you could try changing that.

I had to mess around with the HTC drivers after updating to the Orange 2.1 ROM. I'm on Win7 64, and couldn't sync the phone with the PC until I reinstalled some other drivers. I will have a dig round for the thread I used for info and the dl links for the drivers. It could be something similar that you experiencing?

I got pdanet installed and working and had to mess around with the USB settings.

There seems to be two types of USB connections that can be made, usb mass storage and the usb debugging mode. usb mass storage only works when you pull down the notifications bar and click 'usb connected, select to copy files to/from your computer'. Debugging mode, as far as I can tell, is only for connecting the phone to the PC for development work (or in this case, PDAnet use).

PDAnet is also an awesome app - allows tethering of the phone for internet access. Works like a charm without weird settings/not a lot of setup.

Should also mention didn't work on my netbook with ubuntu either.
