    Hi

I signed up to aol's free trial...

How do I access the internet without aol's software always popping up? I want to dial in, but using the software I prefer. How do I close the aol browser without disconnecting?

    You can't.

I suggest you use aol software to connect, then minimise the window and use ordinary software for the net - IE6, Mozilla, SmartFTP, mIRC etc etc.

AOL is not just an ISP - they are an Online Service/Content provider. Like Supercool said - try a different ISP. Maybe Freeserve or Virgin.net will do what you're looking for - and i'm sure you can get free trials/versions.

Get rid of everything to do with AOL on your computer, sign up with UKonline or whatever it's called; completely free with no problems. Don't think the connection speeds are too bad either, not sure though.

step away from AOL and run away as fast as you can! U have to use the AOL browser to connect and if you close it, it disconnects so u hav 2 live with it invading your intire life and hoggin lots of mem. If you have to use it do what OrbDeamon suggest and use somthing else or use a better ISP.
