How are companies getting away with not coming clean about known defects like this? Their stealth warranty extension is a clear admission that it is a manufacturing / design issue. Keeping it quiet might help you maintain a reputation for excellent build quality but doing so is anti-consumer and an antitrust issue.

Word. It's why I wanted to write about it, even though Apple users make up a minority of this site's audience: the more people know about it the better, especially the ones who paid out-of-pocket for a repair prior to the extension and who now should be able to request that money back.
