    :waah: Sad to see that.
Yeah, I don't think your going to be able to get them working again. You might be able to clean the cases up though, I'd buy one if the price was right. ;)

i'd take a soft bristle brush and brush that caked on stuff off, as opposed to exposing it to more water damage.
things that i gaurantee you will not work again are:
    CDROM
    Floppy
    Hard drive

however i've gotten my computer wet before, have a bayres and i overfilled it with the case tilted back and like 2 cups of water went on my 9800pro, my motherboard, audigy2, etc. this mind you happened while the computer was on
believe it or not it still works

after that **** is gone, make absolutely sure its dry, conenct it all up and give it a shot.

Strip everything out of the case, the hardware will be useless more than likely. Water is dry-able but mud+water your a bit ****ed :/ the mud will always retain some water unless you stick it in an oven or something, then itll brush off.

Then pressure wash the case, dry it fully and use it again. Should be fine.

The components most likely didn't keep a static charge for very long when it was turned off and the time that the water touched it. The components should be fine, even the hard drive is a sealed component that really only needs to be cleaned as well if I'm not mistaken. Just clean everything with however you want and then make sure it's completely dry. Just don't power wash it, you'll bust it...

I have a feeling that when you connect it up you'll hear the good old apple "bong" and thats it... :S If apple hardware is damaged, its tough to find out whats wrong, since their boot-up process is incredibly different to PC's.

erm, actually, the days of propreitary apple hardware are over.

aside from the motehrboard and CPU, the RAM, graphics card, and hard drives are all industry standard DDR400, AGP and SATA stuff.

dont be discorage i know it looks bad but if it was unpluged before the submession the it should be fine with a good cleaning although most hard drives have a breathing hole and if water got in there i doubt you'll ever get those dryed out but as i said earlyer hard drives are rather cheap these days...from what i see there thats yer worst case scenario just get it really clean and really dry before you even plug it in agin :thumb:

The CPU's might still work, they were protected by the heatsink the whole time, and usually the socket>cpu seal is pretty tight... you could try selling those as is if they still work..

Actually, if they are broken, I will buy all of the CPU's and RAM sticks off ya.. sounds like something good to make a collage with.

I'll be working on it some more this upcoming week. I've still got my hopes up for this one. HDD is serial ata, so I'll be able to replace that, the dvd drive is just your generic sony ide drive and there's no floppie :D . I"m hoping that if the MB/CPU's work along with the ram, then I'll be willing to put a bit of money into it to get it working (since retail is about 3000) I figure I can put at least 1000 more into it to get it back up to full power  I'll be posting later on this week with more updates, pics etc. My RAM is all cleaned up, as is a good portion of the MB and video card

Hey, where is the PSU or equivalent equipment in the G5, I can't seem to figure it out? Is it built in to the mobo PCB, hidden away somewhere or am I blind?

If you're talking about the actual PSU, it's the entire bottom of the case, there's 4 screws (if i recall) on the bottom of the case on the outside, then the psu will start to fall out inside. Make sure the MB and everything else in that center area is cleared, because it takes up a lot of room. It's a bit difficult to wiggle and jiggle it out, but it'll come out eventually

In pics 3 and 12 you can see it a bit. In 3 you can see the PSU once the screws are out (it's leaning a bit towards the inside - the entire top of the picture) and in 12 on the right side you can see the 2 power sources peeking out from the cutout. They are connected to the psu :thumb:

It'd be nice if you used the macro shot button on your camera :thumb:

Got some.. less blurry shots with the whole machine in them?

Very Little, let the MB soak in a tub overnight, and hosed that back off, got a good amount of dirt off, it's resoaking as we speak.

Heatsinks haven't even started on, still trying to think of a solvent to clean them, plain water doesn't clear off the water stains (i'm assuming calcium/salt deposits :duh: ) So I'm talking to my chem teachers about that.

The case is still chilling, I sanded off the rest of the case rust that had occured, so it's almost done. I used touchup paint from something that was silver, to dab on one smalll dot on the case that had rusted on outside. Bent the one piece inwards so it's flush again. I'll def post some updated pics tonight. Sorry for the wait :naughty:

    Nice one :)

Don't forget to make use of the macro button if you're doing close up shots!

dont forget to use alcohol (rubbing stuff) or maybe acetone.

that will take off all the dirt you want it to. should come out nice and shiny.

You're friend wouldn't happen to have any more up for grabs, does he? I'm in the Fairfax area.
