As to any extras not to my knowledge, most I could probably get is 2 g4's probably just the cases at best, he likes to keep a spare mac salvage yard if you will. If there's interest in that, I'll look into it. I'm trying to get one of the forum modders (eddie) a g5 case, he asked first edit, also a side note, these aren't the 100% latest those were like from last week, I've done a bit more on them
I'd love one if the offer still stands and I'll pay for shipping and throw in a bit on the side! also I love macs, and I know you've gotten a lot of offers (probably a ton more in PM form) but if you want to get rid of some of that hardware too maybe we can work something.
-_- I think I was the first one to offer in the thread... Anyways... it doesn't look too good, things are starting to rust :x
VA, we're right dab in the middle of the East Coast of the USA. As to the mac, the actual pieces aren't too bad off, mb and etc. it's the case i've been having to fight rust. I've basically been using steel wool and or sandpaper to remove it, and it seems to be doing ok, I've had suggest I try acetone for the heatsinks, and heatpipes so I'll hopefully be doing that this weekend. And yeh, if the thing doesn't work, I'm still hoping it will. I'll will probably just part it out, or just sell the non working parts
just take your time muffin, clean all the parts very slowly, making sure there as clean as possible. Dont rush into cleaning it out and getting it working. Better to take it slow so you dont try and turn it on before its completely clean. My own opinion, is that the MB looks pretty good for being underwater and being covered in dirt/mud. I really want to see this thing be brought back to life!!
Yepo, I have no intentions of even powering it on, without it either being fully inspected by myself and a friend, or a local electronics shop. I don't want to have any possibility of it being in working condition, but not letting something fully dry or something of that nature, and hear a poof Basically I'm hoping I can save these parts MB Procs Case DVD RW (it'll be a stretch) RAM Graphics card I figure if most of that is fine, then I can throw in the $$ for a new hdd, and I'll look into more cases.
Well again, if the stuff fries... I'll take the processors! (I'll pay shipping and some compensation)... always like to add expensive stuff to my collection of junk If you're not asking too much for the case(s), I'll be willing to take one.. but I have a feeling that you'll be selling them for like 100-300 bucks..
Yeh the case will be hard to part with if nothing works, I may actually do what that april fools joke was and put a pc in it. But if I do that it'd be all out , but yeh no guarentees yet, but I'll post it in bst if it's dead on me
When my Waterblock broke and submerged my mobo. I had to deal with some pin corrosion, rust, dirt etc. I found the Brush wheels for the dremel to be a life saver (not the wire ones that would be deadly, nylon I believe). on a low speed they would brush dirt out of sockets and such but wouldn't damage leads or traces. Just a tip hope that helps, Good luck
ooo didn't even think of that, yeh I've been having probs getting underneath those plastic pci/ram slotswhere the pins are exposed, thanks for the tip lowes trip for me
TechMonkey-TheMuffinMan is in Richmond. TheMuffinMan-Shame about the G5, love to see you getting it working. Are you anywhere near VCU? I went to school there, know (or rather knew) the Shockey(sp?) Slip very well...back then (my dorm was on the medical campus). Good luck with the G5, take your time, it will be worth it! --- no sig. yet.
Ah misunderstood haha, yeh I'm in the Richmond area, actually right below it in the suburbs. And yepo I know what you're talking about Shockoe Bottom, that's actually where it flooded and this case came from. If you know where Bottom's Up Pizza is, the water was up to their 2nd floor. And the business is right down the street.
I probably did know the place, but I'm old and memory cells are dying off in big clumps. Used to go to a White Castle nearby nearly every weekend.
