The entry level MacBook is still the white plastic one, as Apple will still be producing it, and selling it at a cheaper price point... If you're in the US. Apparently, a cheaper price point in the UK is an increase from £699 to £719. An increase of £20!

I want a new MBP, but can't really justify it. My 2006 model runs just fine and I've just upgraded the wifi, HDD and maxed out the memory.

    Maybe next year. :)

Holy crap. £649 for a 24 inch display? Yeah, LED backlit, but apart from that. No DVI (we can't expect HDMI from Apple, to be fair).

The new MBs and MBPs are alright.

"Like the new MacBook Pros, the MacBooks feature a pair of USB 2.0 ports, a Firewire 800 port, a mini DisplayPort socket along with Gigabit Ethernet and 802.11n wireless networking and a built-in iSight camera."

The new Macbooks don't have Firewire ports.

I was never impressed with the macbook air, primarily because it felt cheap due to the keyboard. I'm glad they've updated most of their line to look equally as cheap... makes the decision to stay with my Lenovo that much easier.

getting me a MBP, probably won't use my PC outside of FPS games - unless I get a dvi adapter then the mbp is just as capable! m$ will be happy to hear I got an OEM vista for steam too, bye bye summer bonus!

I was seriously debating buying a new Macbook, but the increased pricepoint is hugely disappointing and frankly the styling isn't up to what I think Apple's standards are. If I can buy a Sony or even a Dell that's better looking than an Apple, at a far far smaller price, then why bother?

The lack of Firewire is going to seriously miff some video buffs!

This is the worst update from apple in a long time.

    - the base price for the macbook pro is £1400 !!! I paid less than less oin Feb 2007 for the entry level macbook pro. Plus my model has DVI and FW400 so no adapter leads required.

    - glossy screens only for the pro models - no thank you.

    - macbook has no FW port anymore. Which means no more home video as the camcorder won't connect to it.

    - base mac book price for the revised model is a whopping £949. Holy rip off Batman!

    - New cinema display is useless to me without a set of pricey adapters, plus its way overpriced to say to dell wfp2008 24 inch screen.

Complete crap from apple - and this is coming from someone who normally loves their stuff.

Lovely designs, but they're looking more and more like PCs now they've dropped the all-white.

Okay so macs look great but specs wise you seem to be far better going for a dell or other brand.

I agree with also the "meh" and "wtf" comments above... but two graphics cards in a laptop :D
That is a good idea, let's hope you don't have to restart in order to swap.

Speaking of the keyboard. What if you get hair or crumbs down their? How are you suppose to clean it? Because it's their new "unibody" design, wouldn't you have to take apart the whole thing?

Like the old design better IMHO.

I think you're paying mostly for materials, and not the assembled laptop.
Low value, indeed. But, it's still better value than buying an Aston Martin "for the specs you get".

Apple also need to give us FIGURES rather than just (1.x times faster) as well. Yeah, the 9600M GT might be 2.3x faster than the 9400 chip, but if it is only pushing 2.3FPS, then that isn't great... (obviously, a stupid example, but you get what I mean).

While I do like some of the new features, I do think that Apple are running out of ideas. Similarly priced PC laptops are better on power and features, and MS seems to be catching up with Mac OS X, if things go to plan...
