I still want it! But I have to try it out first. The little ball does look a bit weird. Probably just get another MX510.. I'm so addicted to all the buttons..

The ball on top works really well, a little strange with the fake noises though.

the left right click is one button and seems just like a normal mouse click. It took me about a minute to sort out the finger off the left side to right click thing.

Pleased with it, a little expensive at about £32 (edu discount) but fits well with my ibook.

Mine just arrived this morning. Verdict?

Well I've been a solid user of the old one button mouse anyway (dabbled with a third party regular mouse) and it feels exactly the same in terms of holding it, and feel as the old Apple model.

The ball thingy on the top has a very unusual feel to it. It functions like a scroll wheel, but doesn't quite feel like one. It's got a more... continuous? feel to it, rather than whipping it up and down like a wheel it moves more like a little ball. But with wheel like notches. It does make a noise by the way, not much less noisey than my Logitech MX510 PC mouse.

The new right button works very well, and because there is no defined second button it feels dead odd that it does indeed, magically, work. The extra two side buttons function only as a single function, and require quite a lot of pressure to activate (certainly with big meat shovels like mine anyway).

Software wise, it worked straightaway when I plugged it into my iMac (latest OS update installed), but after installing the included CD, it changed the right button to work the same as the left (ie a single button mouse). A trip to the control panel let me assign whatever I wanted to it. I've also assigned the click function of the rolling nipple to Expose (which is pretty cool).

[EDIT] The more I use this little rotating nipple, the more I like it. It's got a really nice feel to it compared to a standard wheel mechanism. IMHO anyway.

me thinks i'll stick with my mx1000 till round 2 of this mouse comes out. i don't really care for the look of it either, would have preferred a transparent version

    This mouse absolutely rocks!!!

the only problem I have with it is i'm sooOooOo used to ctrl-left click and the mouse looks like it only has one button, that I forget it has a rmb and do a ctrl-left click... then immediately after go doh! slap my forehead and do a 'proper' right click, even though the context menu has already popped up!!

And the scroll button is awesome, i hated the 'clicky' and 'notchy' feel of the MS mice and the MightyMouse works very well in windows too... it really is worth the £35 in my opinion.

    No dissappointment at all.

Been using it for over a day now, and the scrolly ball thing is just so nice. It's just a perfect design and the more I use it the less I like using the MX510.

I had a go with one today and thought it was absolutely rubbish. The nubbin is far too small and has no immediate tactile feel to it, the squeezing is unnatural and the right clicking is a hassle. Even for someone like me, that always seems to lift his left finger up on right-clicks.

No, I definitely won't be buying one. Too many flaws.

I disagree with everything bar the squeezing. How is the right clicking a hassle? You just... press the mouse on the right button area. As for the scroll thingy, I think it's a masterstroke of design. It doesn't feel like you're spinning a big cog a la regular scroll wheels, it has nice texture to it, and depending on how you move it it can scroll a page minutely slowly or blisteringly fast - unlike a regular mouse wheel that scrolls a page in regular increments it's more akin to getting ahold of the scroll bar and dragging it down in terms of precision.

It's a hassle because about 50% of the time my left finger was still just touching the left side, meaning nothing would happen.

The ball I could not get to move where I wanted it to when I wanted to scroll on the horizontal axis. It feels too weird. It's too small, IMO, to be accurately handled. I much prefer just holding down shift if I want to scroll left and right (which is not that often).

To be honest, if you like it, that's fair enough... But I thought it was rubbish and expect a lot more from Apple tbh. I won't give up my basic 5 button optical wheel mouse until something truly revolutionary comes along.

i'm just like you if i have to lift my left finger just to use the right click i'm screwed. i have huge meat shovels for hand and this thing isn't gonna cut it. i'm sticking with my previous statement and waiting for the second incarnation of this
