No comment on podcasting, but I hope when I (ab)use the extended warrantee on my 20GB 'pod, I'll be getting some colored goodness. Hopefully it doesn't kill battery life...

    The pricing is a bit mismatched: US$299 = £166, not £209 :(

Even if US$299 was tax-free, and thus it would be £166+vat, that's still only £195... I don't know why I'm complaining - Apple have always been like this

OK, so UK pricing is INC VAT (confirmed on the UK Apple Store, and updated in the story) and I corrected an earlier typo by Wil: the 60GB is US$399/£299. Which is just as bad - it should be more like £260 inc

Surely though they are all made in the same iFactory in iChina, so iShipping cost would be the same to everywhere...

Actually, I gather that the are simply being replaced - you *might* find some run-out deals, but Apple hardware is the most price-fixed in the known world, so I doubt you'll score any big bargains tbh

tbh i'd much rather it be $299/£209 than xbox's $300/£300 It is a huge step in the right dirrection and as living costs in britian are more than elsewhere the £209 mark is a realistic mark. Apple have learnt from previous law suits it would seam, now to prepare a class action against microsoft's xbox360 as soon as it comes out.

Who wants to view photos on an iPod anyway? To quote a friend, it just seems like a solution to a problem that doesn't exist?

I have my girlfriend's pictures to put on there and stare when I'm on the subway, at work, eating, and in the bathroom. She's not my girlfriend, just a friend but I like her tee hehe =)

Yep. The ipod is a music player, guys, and a good one. Let it do what it does. Not everything in the world needs to be able to wipe your ass for you. :)

Podcasts rock...I can get a lot of my favorite radio stations on them!

I don't view pics on my iPod photo - I just use it as a photo vault whilst I'm away on holiday. It's nice to see what you've just imported, so the colour screen is a plus - but you wouldn't get your mates gathered round it to view a slide show, in much the same way you wouldn't on any other MP3 player that can do similar tricks - the screen's too small. You can of course do slideshows on a TV if you have the S-video TV-out dock.

Not natively. But then you wouldn't want too - as with viewing photos, the screen is too small to show a movie (I recently saw one of my mates playing a movie on his iRiver, and that didn't look to great - and that has a slightly bigger screen than an iPod IIRC). An Archos or similar would be better in that respect. However, there is this little doohicky that's coming out soon that uses the iPod as movie storage, and shows the images on a bigger, fold down screen.
