Yeah, I'd love a 1680x1050 17" Widescreen TFT. Or even a CRT would be good.

You KNOW I'm with you boys on this. And dammit, I'm going to get to the bottom of it one of these days. The next opportunity I get to grab one of the manufacturers by the short & curlies, I'm gonna go for the kill :)

We're not alone in being grumpy about this by the way...

I've got 1600x1200 on my 15" HP notebook with mobile 128MB FireGL graphics...

    Apple sauce, b***ch :hip:

(sorry - just needed an excuse to use that joke!)

Look what I just found. It's like they read our minds! Ok it's not huge, but £100 for a widescreen TFT is pretty awsome :D

I think this is mis-stated and misleading. It was never intended that Aperture compete with photoshop.

I'm not quite sure about current powerbook users upgrading to these newest versions. Laptop upgrades usually only occur when the hardware reaches its end of life, contrary to desktop systems where you might upgrade the motherboard & CPU, or the sound card...

Anyway, I'm with you guys on wanting better (and cheaper) TFTs for the desktop. My work laptop (DELL Latitude D800) has a resolution of 1920x1200, which is so SWEET. It really puts my desktop display to shame, with its paltry 1280x1024. Every time I sit down at my PC when I come home, I'm disappointed by the comparatively low resolution and image quality (sharpness, contrast, brightness). I'm actively considering getting a better one (and flogging my current one to my dad :naughty: ). Then again, those S939 mobo's paired with a 7800GT do look incredibly tempting...

Really? One of the major uses of PhotoShop on the Mac is for image professionals to retouch photographs at a pro grade. The point of Aperture is... ?

Photoshop will let you do anything with an image.
(http://www.worth1000.com/ is a great place to see examples of this.) Aperture is for cleaning and managing professional digital photgraphs. Aperture doesn't even support layers. They are not the same product - but they do have some overlap.

There are some really good articles available online about this issue.
