To be clear, in my post above I wasn't actually talking about thinning the active processes or disabling components to speed up the Windows experience. One of my friends actually went into the c:/Windows/System directory and started deleting DLL files because he was sure they didn't really serve a critical purpose. For the record, he was a Math major. He could solve complex equations with ease, but when it came to computers he really was clueless. My point is that technology isn't just for the geeky; it takes a special kind of geek to appreciate what goes on under the hood, and it's a very specific sub-culture within Geekdom.

    Well...ummm...tjaaa...that's uuh.
In this case I have to agree, unless you REALLY know your OS'es, that's not a smart thing to do :D
And IF one does that, and it goes bogus...you'd better be quiet about it :D

Is there something wrong with someone not having an intimate knowledge of the computer's inner workings?

For what it's worth I consider myself fairly geeky, and I rather like the iPad.

No, it's just a matter of some people like the iPad, some people want the iPad, and some people shouldn't be allowed to touch anything but an iPad.

I'm pretty sure you're not in category 3.
