[Edit by GOO] Sharp eyed Tek found this odd bit of news about US e-tailer Tiger Direct attempting to stop Apple from releasing the latest version of OSX:

    http://www.appleinsider.com/article.php?id=1039

    That's a bit surprising. :eyebrow:

    :hehe:

waste of time imo - unless tiger direct would put the money they win (if they win of course) into trying to catch up with Newegg.

except its apple getting sued, not doing the suing. And I really doubt you could copyright "human"... it's the same idea.

Although I would not want Mac users to get into problems I would still love to see Tiger Direct winning this case. Wouldn't it be hilarious how Apple would try everyone to update their Tiger OS which would change the name. And then there would be people who wouldn't update it just to have Tiger name. :D Sry I'm talking $h1t. IN the worst case for Apple, they'd just pay a huge amount of money for Tiger Direct and call it even.

I agree with Tek - odd. Well more than odd TBH. People confused over the name? Eh? One's an OS, the other's an overpriced internet shop. What's to get confused about? The timing is such that it gathers maximum publicity for TD, which seems to be the point in this case.

From what I can gather TD's main beef in this is the fact that they're not coming top in Google results now. Anybody fancy google-bombing them out of existance? ;)

I'm unclear as to what will actually happen if TD is successful - the injunction will only be valid in the States and territories that TD opperate in, right?

Tiger Direct would have to sue Apple in every country TD hold a trademark and the OS is sold in.

oooh tiger direct isnt all that bad, i used to shop there before i found newegg. basically their prices are slightly lower than real life retail. but they had soem good deals sometimes. i think theyre the same company as systemax, and most of those computers they sell on late night tv. so theyre a pretty large company.

I hope they win, even though the idea of confising them with an OS is silly. i hope they win because apple has been playing the suing game a bit much lately with their own fans websites and whatnot. go tiger

...this is the stupidest thing I have ever heard of.

Come on Tiger Direct, are you ****ing kidding?

Doubt it will win, you cant just use generic words and names like tiger all to yourself. Just like how Monster Cables is trying to sue anyone that uses Monster in thier title, and they are losing bad.

Why dont you companies try and turn a legit profit instead of sueing people for it.

whatever, tiger direct can eat it anyway, newegg for life! Notice that Newegg isnt sueing everything under the son with the word egg in it.

It'll get dismissed before it ever goes to trial. Just fishing for some free press and maybe a quiet payoff. BTW... zipzoomfly.com best out there. Best prices and free 2nd day shipping. Though newegg does have a bit larger selection.

Their RMA and tech support is horrible. Anytime I've tried to contact them for support or replacement, they've told me to contact the manufacturer and insisted that there was nothing they could do.

Tiger Direct offers what seem like good deals, but in the end you get what you pay for ;)

However, I hope they win. Nothing like seeing egg on Steve Jobs's face :D

Very true. This is beyond odd, this is a sad, desperate move to make some money and cheap publicity for themselves.
