I don't think it's a marketing move to be honest. One of the 'requirements' of holding a registered trademark is that you take action against any infringements against you. I think Tiger Direct are just acting as the trademark office dictates.

Tiger is a word in the common english language. One should not be able to get exclusive rights to such a word if there was any common sense in the world.

Thats the irony of this situation that if Apple win technically then any one can use "apple" as their trading name :)

There is still the legal argument over the apple name and the beatles tho.

What's silly about that case is that most people will know of Apple Computer instead of Apple Corps. It's just that Apple Computer have moved into the music biz which was Apple Corps' turf.

Beatles is not really a problem since its not really a word, but Apple, Windows, Tiger, they all are.

Not the name "Beatles" but Apple Corps Ltd which is the Beatles' record label. They and Apple Computer Inc have had many court cases in the past, and Apple Computer Inc promised to stay out of the music business so they could keep the name. Then they decided to release the iPod and iTunes - bringing them into the music business and so the whole palaver starts up again.

True. But TigerDirect holds the rights to the word Tiger if it involves the computer industry (I think it says this in the article).

Excuse my ignorance, but was steve jobs with apple when the first 2 lawsuits were filed (see http://www.legalzoom.com/articles/article_content/article11325.html, yea, i no its unrelated). Because if so, it could be a chance of 3rd time lucky with the beatles. But the funy thing is its quite often the smaller companies that win these legan battles.
