Were the lawsuits just a ruse to focus attention on the 'other' big fruit flavoured expo kicking off this week? Thats what marketeers think, according to Wired:

Apple's lawsuit against ThinkSecret is a strategic but risky move designed to focus press attention on this week's Macworld, marketing experts say.

But the move -- carefully timed before the show -- could backfire if the Mac community judges Apple acted too harshly.

Last week, Apple filed suit against ThinkSecret for allegedly misappropriating trade secrets following a report about a $500 monitor-less iMac and new iWork software, a productivity suite to rival Microsoft's Office.

According to ThinkSecret, Apple's Steve Jobs will release the products -- and new, cheaper iPods -- during his Macworld keynote speech on Tuesday morning.

The stated aim of Apple's lawsuit was to identify the source of the leaks and obtain an injunction, but court papers confirmed parts of ThinkSecret's report, validating what many had considered speculative or unlikely.

Don't know if I agree with the idea that it was done just for the publicity - Steve has always been pissed off about any sort of leaks. Remember the time several years ago when he personnaly ripped the ATI cards out of every mac at a trade show and replaced them with nVidia cards because ATI had released info about the new macs before the show?

(Almost completely off topic - new challange for some modders out there? The new "Headless iMac" seems like a perfect starting point platform for a cool mac based mod...... Just an idea.)
