If Apple caved in on this issue the resulting backdoor would destroy the privacy of millions of people for decades to come, which means that one terrorist will have done far more damage by simply buying a phone than he could have ever done by blowing himself up somewhere.

More info has come to light since Apple posted there first legal responce including critical time frame info. FBI had all data from the phone 3 days after the shooting. It also shows the FBI as complete and utter idiots who are trying to use this one case to set a legal tone that could be used for any other phone.

Since no court outside of the Supreme Court can set Policy which is what Apple is asking this case will likely be moved up the chain but it could be years before it reaches Supreme Court. It just depends on if they can bypass the lower courts. Unlikely as Apple lawyers would likely be able to argue something against this.

Apples main argument seems to be and what it has based its defence on is can any government force a Publicly listed company to do whatever that government wants.

At first i was broadly in favor of this court ruling but as more information has come to light and having thought about it some more I've changed my mind, it's not so much about if the modified software could be used on other phones it's about legal precedence and the possibility that future cases would use this ruling as an example of when software has been modified to allow authorities access to someones personal data.
