Um...I buy intel because they are quality products, and run extremely cool. I am a proud owner of 2x1.266 Tualatins, running with no fans, just 2 sk6's, and the processors never go above 107 degrees under full load. The P4's are a different issue, but i believe the northwood will be successful. Dropping down to a .13 micron process saves money, and increases scalability.

My AMD box needs extensive cooling, and if i didn't run water, i'd have to listen to one of those Delta screamers.

Also, to go off topic, i just want to suport Apple, even though no one has brought it up. They are quality machines, with a kick-ass OS to boot. In a few weeks, they will be unveiling their new machines, 1.6 ghz G5's which will definately put apple back in the game. As a proud owner of a speedy DP 500 OC'd to Dual 600 (water/peltier cooled) I'd like to point out that apple's do NOT suck.

Hi Beav, welcome to the bit-tech forum.

I've had many intel cpu's and have always found them good, but whether they are 2 to 2 1/2 times better than AMD's (when considering price) it is very questionable. They also simply do not have the flexability with being multiplyer locked and stuck with rambus or now sdram. For me. they are simply not worth considering until they let me build the system I want and not the one they insist.

As to your comments on the apple, I have to agree. For graphics and publishing you cannot beat them, even microsoft use them to produce their internal magazine. But they are so limitting. You just cant do a lot with them can you, when it comes to building your own system, upgraiding and modding. They never will get a good press on a site that specialises in the ability to make your computer your own, when you can only make it an apple.

You can customize it to a certain extent...i replaced the DVD with my plextor 16x, and mounted the apple DVD up top (with a window btw)...I also "melted" off the paint on the doors with isoproply to make them clear, i added my procooling logo to the front which looks really killer btw. I took my Asus V8200 and re-flashed it with a mac gf3 bios i found on the net, so now i have a speedy gfx card.

They are coming off of the proprietary hardware based systems now...and software is piling up. Office X rocks, IE 5.1 is much better than what it was, the adobe suite will be carbonized, and quake3 and wolfenstien run beautifully. The only problem i see with my machine is the off die L2 cache, which is unfortuanetely inhibitting my OC experience. Anyway, i'm still excited for the new G5's...ddr333, and 1.6 gighz to boot. Apple, you have my support.

The majority of the people i know are ignorant, and base their assumptions off previous apple attempts, but i think they are heading in the right direction. The only thing holding PC users back, is the very unnatractive price range of powermacs. The iPod btw is really cool, and lots of my friends drool over it...anyway, sorry to ruin this thread with oddball oppinions.

    Thanks for the warm welcome.

*I still love AMD, my 1.0 AYHJAR suits me exceptionally with a 1.6ghz clock, and it's my gaming machine.

There is also a bit of a difference in attitude with mac owners (Iknow this is a generalisation, but based on my experience) in as much as they seam to be more conserned in what the machine can do for them and not what they can do to the machine. The peeps that I know are all in the publishing world and would not consider a PC as a serious tool. None of them can see the point of overclocking and say to me "why f*** up something that already is excellent for their needs." I gues that is why there are less options for parts compaired to PC's

when you turn on your pc for the first time teh chip/hs will be cool for a few mins, even my (now dead) hot headed athlon started up at about 37 and then shoots up to 54 after a few mins. So if you catch it in time you are ok. or if you dont ... like me p00f! buy buy athlon
