My advice to anyone trying to break into the community: slide gracelessly in to your partner's swimwear, ask her to take a photo and them make it your avatar.

It'll give you a warm, fuzzy feeling like no other...

NOTE: This may not work if you're gay, and will almost certainly result in a ban if you're female :hehe:

Will you look as much like an 1870s strongman (without the muscles) as I did though?

Also note: this swimming costume was unusable once I had managed to peel it back off, so be prepared to replace what you destroy. Unless you're a weedy little stick of course, or have a big ladyfriend.

Your missus'll thank you for finally scrapping that pic of her arse :)

But you can still keep it in your profile page.

That pretty much sums me up. And I am not spending as much time in the Marketplace as I got tired of flogging stuff I needed a few weeks down the line. But I have learnt much from my lurking as has been said there are an awful lot of clever folk in here. To a oldish bloke who left school at the ripe old age of 15 and did not get into computing until I was in my late forties i would rather peruse the threads and hopefully soak up their knowledge.

Yeah, now it's become fashionable, I tend not to say I do it. When it dies down, back to business as usual. Buckling Springs Cheesecake!:D

At some point you get this feeling that you've already had every conversation, multiple times.

It is loud out there. When I started using the internet (97? / 98?) and bit-tech it felt like a select community of fellow nerds, initiated in on something really special. Now it is difficult to say or hear anything over the cacophony of noise by produced hordes of trolls, illiterate and ignorant internet users and what essentially are children that should be out playing!

Bit-tech isn't necessarily like this though, that is why I continue to lurk. I guess like other Lurkers I don't post much because I don't feel like I have anything worthwhile to contribute.

Also, I don't mod anymore and posting without this ":dremel: " is just not worth it ;)

TL;DR: I don't want to live on this planet any more, but when I do, I'll hang out at Bit-tech.

See how I seamlessly fused two memes together there, proving your point entirely? Also, you had a seven year gap off the forums - but you came back.

Tempting but I'm not sure she will understand. Self portrait it is then!

Haha that is painful, but I'll bear with it. Seven year gap? I was still there, just no time to engage properly :sigh:

Also, the internet in the mid to late 90s was just filled with porn (a lot of which was of questionable legality in the UK), which took an age to download. My early teenage years, god I was sore :waah:

    Lurker reporting for duty!
I can't even remember why I signed up anymore but I'm starting to post more these days.
It may have been about watercooling advice which I still haven't done..
I'm used to being part of considerably smaller groups where you can check once a day and still be the first to answer a question that someone has asked.

It's certainly a great community to be a part of so kudos all round :)

And just think of those glasses that you've got to wear these days - your eyes must be ruined! ;)

Sound's like Tech Support is right up your street :hehe:

Contact lenses like bloody marbles mate.

I've got to say I've not seen any names I don't at least vaguely recognise crop up in here yet, but there's time.

My postcount has barely moved since I stepped down as Editor of bit-tech in early 2010 - priorities have changed unfortunately and I'm barely posting on any forums at the moment, but I do still lurk here and mainly participate in the Motoring threads.
