I have never used my car's horn, I don't even know if it works, but that's only because I havn't had my car long. I'm sure a use for it will come up soon.

I agree with Fod, Greek drivers scare me like nothing else, especially those on mopeds. :jawdrop:

In the past few years I've used it maybe 5 times. The times when I would use it I am avoiding having an accident and and rather concentrating on avoiding the idiot who screwed up on the road instead of fumbling around for the horn.

And by the time I find the horn I long gone anyways.

And for people who use the horn when they get cut off, if you have enough time to hit the horn then you obviously weren't cut off.

I find you have to press really hard in the lower centre rather than where your thumbs (which is also where the horn labels are).

My parents used to have a car that had the horn on the end of the indicator stalk. They were always pressing it whilst indicating. I think it was the Pegeot 405 but I could be mistaken.

I shout "pull out, I dare you", so yep, it's a warning device :)

That's my horn (I have a bike though, bikes aren't meant to have horns)

I onlt ever really use it if someone gets very close, to let them know i'm there. Had one occasion where someone turned right in front of me so i had to swerve right, the person driving in that lane was heading toward me at 40mph, looked like he was fiddling with his CD player! Thinking fast I used the horn and avoided what could have been a nasty accident.

I too only use it to really let people know I'm there (Single track roads and such), to indicate people that they are driving badly or to just give a gentle reminder that the lights went green.
It's never a long blast either, a short sharp tap is usually enough to warn people without annoying them.

Nothing gets me angry like the sound of a car horn being held too long.

I wish I had twisty country lanes!

Anyways, I've only had to use my horn twice and once more in my friends car when we where nearly t-boned by a guy who ran a stop sign, I had to vent my frustration too. The other times it was people skipping turns at a four way stop near me, O GOD I WANT TO KILL THEM! I don't like honking while I'm on the highway, I'm usually stuck behind some idiot with a 400hp corvette that refuses to pass and I don't want to startle anyone.

Does anyone ever get pissed at the people who drive all the way up a closed lane and merge at the end?

I have used it when people have done stupid things.

At mini roundabouts when people clearly dont know the "right of way" rule and idiots jump out from your left just as your going on the roundabout - Sometimes I feel like crashing into them just to make them pay for it and be blamed by the insurance companys...

Other times when people sit at a traffic light and dont notice its turned green..or the other day some idiot had parked his van right around a corner on a double yellow and a big lorry came and because of this idiot and his van (who was just sitting there btw, with his buddy next to him) the lorry couldnt get past them - They were completely oblivious to what they were doing and the line of cars forming and traffic being caused.

It was when I horned and they looked at me because I was headed in the opposite direction but parrallel to them, that i pointed to the lorry so the idiots could see the mess they caused behind them.

Seriously, if i was a driving examiner, very few people would pass...

    Lol, that's definitely illegal here.

I usually honk my horn if deer cross the road or about to cross the road. Sometimes it makes them run the other direction, other times they'll just freeze or possibly run across the road.

I've also used it sometimes if I'm behind someone I know. Just to get their attention, on my 1983 Pontiac Grand Prix, I have a pretty loud horn. ;)

People get too easily upset and forget the highway code. I remember using mine when parked, as someone was reversing and it was clear that they had no idea I were behind. I honked, just to let him know I was there. You should have seen the look on his face, it was as if I'd put him out of employment or something.

Of course, the looks on both of our faces could have been alot different if I hadn't have honked.

Roundabout use mostly, as i actually use my indicators correctly, it seems to disoriantate them more, ive got a twin air horn thats rediculously loud, and when they cut me up, they get some of it.

Most of the time its used when pissed off by a nob head, cut up etc, to alert a friend, and on the country roads :) oh and sometimes to say goodbye when ive dropped someone off :)

For me I rarely use the horn maybe if someone looks like their about to cross over lanes and hit me but thats it really.

If its someone driving like an idiot I'm usually too busy down shifting swearing and giving them the finger all at the same time with words that no one should ever hear. Except the idiot who I'm shouting them at.
