I was just wondering, how many people are as stubborn as me and not interested in the Web2.0-esque Windows Vista or 7? Im still on windows XP, and will be sticking with it for a while to come. I actually paid extra on my thinkpad to get XP rather than vista. So my question is, who is on what OS? And i dont care about you Apple folks.
I upgraded on the 20th, as my Windows 7 arrived early. Generally, I think it's a good OS. I'm slightly irritated by various options being absent.. but these are relatively minor things. ESET auto update refused to install the Win7 compatible firewall module causing me some LAN issues... and it wasn't as easy as it should have been to find a X-Fi driver... other than that... all is well. You can uxtheme patch it like you could Vista as well.
Already on it. MSDNAA Cheesecake It's good, but I think I'll leave XP on my gaming rig. At least until DX11 has titles worth playing - then I might dual boot.
OS X is Unix aswell (BSD-based) so you Apple folks have a choice too! Still running Vista, might upgrade to Server 2008 R2 if I can get it for free.
I've made the jump from XP to W7 Pro-x64. I've found a few things which annoy, but nothing major. Not sure if the novelty will wear off, I hope not.
Been running it at work since the 7th and at home with an early RTM copy for a few weeks before that. Went from XP Pro to Win7 Enterprise/Ultimate I like it as an OS. I had XP Pro, Ubuntu and Vista on my machine at home (separate drives) and I used Vista maybe 10 times, Ubuntu even less. As soon as I was on Win7, never looked back. Got a Samsung F3 1Tb and made the change permanent. Been back in XP once and that was to find where my game saves were held.....
Been using Vista x64 for the last few years (since its release really) and took the plunge to Win 7 about 2 months ago.
i will be 'Taking the plunge' once i get paid so i can upgrade my pc at the same time EDIT: o yea im using vista ultimate atm but never had a problem with it but i realy like windows 7
I started off with build 7057, iirc. There was one more beta after that, then tried the RC, which has been running sweet for a good while now (had one blip recently, not sure what was up). I've got Win7Pro x64 loaded onto a usb stick ready to install. Just wondering what the best way to completely wipe my ssd is before installing.
Massive uptake of 7 so early. I remember a similar thread about Vista on here years ago... it was ages before people upgraded.
I upgraded two nights ago. Crysis was crashing on Vista, graphics driver kept crashing. Got fed up, I had my copy of Win 7 Pro from MSDNAA ready to go, so I thought why not. Install went pretty quickly, nice and smooth. And today, I've got most of my stuff that I need back on. And, Crysis doesn't seem to be crashing anymore. And in posting this message, I've found that I'm now getting a spelling checker in firefox, don't know if thats a firefox feature or Win7, but its cool.
I left windows just after vista came out ! Now 7 is out I'm back on vista. Only had vista for 2 months so its staying. Besides I live by the rule of "Never use FE edition software"
AJB2K3 what do you mean you live by the rule of "Never use FE edition software", what is FE software? Back on topic, I'm using Windows 7 but have the best of both worlds because i'm dual booting it with Windows XP SP3
I have no plans to install this £80 service pack, just to get a dumbed down UAC and a couple of visual tweaks. Quite happy with Vista x64.
Vista x64 user, got my student copy of 7 arriving sometime this week but will leave upgrading until the end of term/I get an SSD. Unfortunately trying to get my Mac and my PC to play nice all over again (first it was XP/Leopard, then Vista/Leopard, now Vista/Snow Leopard) is something I'm not sure I will survive, so I'll keep the disc in hand until I have more time. Slightly off-topic - are gavomatic57 and I the only people that like Vista? I got it right at the end of the product cycle, I know, but it's never crashed on me or caused anything else to crash - and i7 seems to be more than capable of handling it.
