Now, you can go to dailytech and read peoples comments on it, but I'll give you the jist, they are impressed.

WHAT THE HELL!?!?!?! That is so retarded, 20mpg, WOW, things like this seriously make me irrate.

The blue motion 65mpg+ Passat is impressive. The new bluetech mercs will be impressive.

What the hell is wrong with Americans that think this a good mpg level? You (man kind in general) should be looking for 40mpg minimum from new cars (especially hybrids) imo. Now I know not all Americans are thinking "ooo thats reall good fuel economy" but the fact that a large proportion will just shows they do not have a handle on the situation.

What baffles me is a mini van with a V8 petrol that will return 12mpg (I travelled in one over the summer for two weeks on an organised trek in the states) can pass the Californian emission laws but a 30pmg 2.2DCi Transit minivan wouldn't...

Yeah, nothing new. Typical crap American motors. I gladly buy foreign every time. I come from a (previously) Ford family, and used to drive Cougars. After the two I had overran their usefulness I went with imports and haven't looked back.

The new Skyline GTR's looks really nice....

The emission laws are probably tied to particulates, and diesel is very dirty when it comes to particualtes. In general the US has very low diesel usage and so the laws are geared up to Petrol, where as in Europe diesel arguably gets an easier time with regards to emission laws because its very efficient.

We should all be able to use veg oil in diesel engines without paying a hefty Fuel tax. Modern diesel Engines need a pre heater and filter but old Diesel motors can run on the stuff pretty well. Of course you do have the problem of your car smelling like a chip van, but hey life isn't perfect (on this planet anyways).:D

WTF, 20mpg, did making it a hybrid actually make the consumption worse?

You guys have to remember that these are not cars but SUV. 20MPG and still being able to two 3 tons is pretty freaking good. If they were to put as much attention into hybrid cars then there'd be better mileage then that.

Too bad GM doesn't make a car that runs on stupidity; where I live I'd never run out of gas. :hehe:

YES but my point is you don't actually need 3 tonne SUV's to go to the shops, you need a bmw 530d touring. at the max.

Agreed, BUT the point is they aren't making that to be economical where as with this hybrid SUV they are. And it's not.

You're absolutely right, logically speaking. But the typical American, at least in my experience here in the South, tends to like driving a huge gas-guzzling hawg of a vehicle just to say they have a large vehicle. Plus they need a large backseat to toss all the months of Arby's and McDonald's wrappers / bags into. :hehe:

It's not the fact that it only does 20mpg that annoys me(I couldn't care less), it's the way it's presented as an environmentall, energy efficient hybrid vehicle when it's clearly not energy efficient.
Green is the new black, attach the word(s) green or environmentally friendly to a product and the dumbass masses will rush out and buy it, and tell you just how environmentally conscious they are.

Lets see, I have 3 sisters in my family - that means 6 people total. hats just over the max you can safely move in a sedan. Now assume my family wants To travel 700miles to visit relatives and after traveling that far, we intend to stay a while - that much luggage will not fit in the trunk of a sedan. But lets just be ignorant and bitch about SUVs - they truly are worthless vehicles unfit for public roads. . .

Lets forget all the work GM has done to provide a nearly 50% fuel economy increase in a 2.5ton vehicle, this thread would simply not be as fun without some ignorant comment about SUVs are stupid, and of course it's impossible not to mention McDonalds in this thread. Sometimes I wonder why I even bother visiting these forums.

How about we remember, Colonol, that there's nothing an SUV can do spacewise that a large estate or MPV can't do. Yes, your average saloon may not be able to deal with 6 people, but a decent sized estate or MPV sure could.

I get around 40mpg from my car.

However being a non-cat 17yr old Golf, makes it politician enemy number one for some reason.

I'd still take that bmw ;) mainly because it can do about 160mph and probably has more torque than the big truck :p But I do know what you mean about the while "needing a big car down south" thing,
