How are people finding it so far? I'll be honest: I can't help but feel it's a step down from Arkham City. Although it has nice effects such as deformable snow and a generous use of PhysX for things like mist, I can't help but feel Arkham City just looks nicer. I was looking forward to taking some screenshots but haven't found anything really worthwhile yet - in Arkham City I could barely move for opportunities. The art direction seems to be a bit more focused on cartoony rather than graphic novel. The combat has been tweaked as well. You can argue that combat in Arkham City was a bit easy but in Origins Batman can feel a little slow at times. It's possible to argue that it's meant to be like that (being a prequel) but it gets a bit annoying at times. Still managed a 77 hit combo somewhere though - without the critical hit perk. Also, is it just me or is Batman's skin orange? I can't help but feel I'm playing as a character from Jersey Shore.
I am currently stuck in a boss fight. Such a pain in my backside. Spent quite awhile attempting it too. Bah and yeah not as pretty for sure. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
I liked the relatively open world in Arkham City and I was hoping they would open it up more - is this game like that or is it more closed in like the first game?
I found that the bosses I've encountered so far had a 'routine' that made them go down faster. They've taken me a few goes to figure out. I think they're quiter good though - the encounter with Spoiler Executioner made me chuckle! It's odd. The overall area is larger but somehow Arkham City feels bigger. It's probably due to the fact that you can speed travel now; I also think Arkham City may have had more detail. Another gripe I forgot to mention: no mapping of mouse buttons! I like to have one of my thumb buttons as the grapple key, now I have to get used to the 'f' key. However, it's a good game, no question. I reckon it'll score 80-85% based on what I've played at the moment.
Check the config file maybe make the changes there? I have been playing with windows live controller tbh. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
The upper city part (the part where Arkham City is played) is pretty much the same : Arkham City : http://img11.hostingpics.net/pics/683692map.png vs Arkham Origins : http://s.glbimg.com/po/tt/f/origina...rkham-origins-mapa-game-informer-vertical.jpg What is different is that in City, you had to go around Sheldon park all the time, there were millions of Enigma stuff all around the city. Overall you had more stuff to do in City - but that could be just a feeling as some of tasks are only added over the time. And the speed travel cuts down a lot of travel time too, but you don't have to use it, you could do it old way too .
Agreed. Fast travel ia for the lazy. I am going to unlock them for completion sake but not use it to be honest. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
Looks quite a lot bigger then. With regard to the boss fights. In the first game I hated the boss fights with a passion, yet in the second game they didn't seem so bad (I could tolerate them). Are the boss fights in Origins more like the first or the second? In general I hate boss fights anyway as they always seem so abstract and break the flow of the game. I don't mind so much if they are easy and I can get past them quickly. What I really hate is of I have to spend a lot of time learning the exact sequence to get past a boss. Will I hate Origins?
The first real boss fight for me has been a pain. Wades attacks deal a lot of damage and his health is much higher than your own. I have struggled to defeat him and as of yet have not been able too. Possibly due to be tired at the time of attempting it. Will try again. Countering his attacks and then dealing some blows of which he can counter too and deal damage also. More like the second. However you have to be more methodical about things. Personally I like it - it makes you feel more in control rather than leaping all over the place avoiding stuff. It probably took me in the region of 5-10 attempts, or maybe more. Here's what I did: Spoiler Stage 1: Stun Wades, beat him down then dodge away before he hits you with the shock attack Stage 1.5: A helicopter flies in, dropping off two normal enemies, while Wades grabs a gas canister. Quickfire some batarangs at Wades to hit the gas canister before he throws it - this cause massive damage. Stage 2: Focus on taking out the two normal enemies whilst jumping around like a loon. Land a punch, jump, land a punch, jump, etc. until they're both down. Stun Wades again and beat him down: he'll grab you and try to bite you. Hammer the space bar like a man possessed. If you do it right, you'll elbow Wades in the face, causing some damage - if you're too slow, he'll bite your left gauntlet, causing damage to you. Stage 2.5: Same as stage 1.5 but three normal enemies appear. Stage 3: The first bit is the same as stage 2 - jump around, landing the odd punch here and there on the normal enemies. Wades charges a bit more IIRC but if you're constantly mobile you'll be fine. Stun Wades, beat him down, then follow the quick time events. That should finish him off. If you find you take a fair bit of damage in the first two stages, it's probably worth restarting the checkpoint. After you beat him though, make sure you upgrade your armour first when starting the campaign proper - it makes boss fights easier. Edit: A few screenshots for the sake of it:
The song at the ending credits alone was worth it ( 5:15 - 7:54 @ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UrgwGnMDF5U ). And while i finished the main storyline, i am at 31% completion. I wonder how much stuff is out there .
Pete J Killer Croc fight is what you just described. I beat Wade this morning though seemed an odd bug where he would be invincible. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
I gave up on the last two Batman games soley because I couldn't get past the boss battles. Never been much of a beat um up type gamer which is why I've failed. Shame as I was really enjoying both games.
Opps! Well, glad you got past it anyway! You won't like this game then for the same reasons. This game gets really good later on - obviously I can't say anything without spoiling it but...wow. The boss battles just feel damn epic.
Liking it so far, I got to fighting Deathstroke last night and found it tricky, went to fire it up this morning for a quick blast before work and now it just crashes to desktop when finding DLC... I like the feel of it so far, it does feel like an early, less rehearsed Batman. Irritations are the re-arrangement of the itinerary (WHY?) and the over-complicated XP/upgrades system.
@Krikkit: Oh man, you are really, really early in the game, and you will HATE Copperhead . FYI, it took me 16 hours to finish the game on normal, well finished the main storyline as i did say before (31% completion). PS: Some people really take their time, so far only 9.7% of owners finished the main storyline of Arkham Origins.
I take my time with Batman games really, I tend to explore around etc. Just hope I can get it working again later! Really don't want to have to re-download 16GB.
Yeah Arkham City took me a long time to finish because I spent a lot of time just exploring and doing the side missions. I like a game where you are allowed to forget about the story and just bugger about with other stuff!
There is a bug with one of Enigmas Fast Travel Challenges The Burnley Tower isn't completable without using a glitch to get onto it. Skip to 2.57ish for the guide.
