Good times last night, despite my getting run over by Nealieboyee, and losing server first position (not that that means anything)! I'm sure you could join the coastal nublets portion of our team, who would be happy to meet up, gear up, and get the hell inland! Don't be surprised if we approach with caution though - new to the forum, I wouldn't trust you in-game at all; I'd always have the ironsights/crosshairs aimed at your head from behind, and never let you out of my sight... I'm sure others would be the same! Sounds like a bug, what happenes if you manually respawn your character? Are you palying on the latest ARMA beat version and Dayz version servers? What sort of times are you online, I'd be happy to come help you get inland a bit once you're sorted out? Whereabouts did you park?
That was a DayZ glitch I swear lol. I was at least 2m from you. @Toxic: Like TSB said, we would love to have you join, but as you're new to the forum, we don't know you at all, so we will be very cautious. Margaret will be watching you.
I'm already scheming for tonight. We need another tent, so we can dump our additional stuff in there and do a weapon and one-of-each-item-only run, where everybody has the most free space possible, then loot ALL the heli sites. I want a AS50 to accompany my M14! EDIT: Or, wait - wouldn't mind a SVD Camo either if I can find a Ghille.
You can restart the server but that's pretty much it. If it's full than tough luck you can't get on unless you restart it and kick everyone. The server and client side is changing so much that we are seeing prolonged down time on the multiplay servers as they try and keep them current. The other positive is you could ask them to set the server time differently so you playing in daytime instead of night.
Firstly, apologies for the slight derail into the more basic ARMA 2 system, but I really want to get into this game. Last night I decided to play the ARMA 2 demo in steam to see what the game is like. Now I'm not sure if the demo is just an old build of the game or what, but first off: it looks like a$$ - and im refurring to the animations, not the graphics itself. Jecky, erratic, and out of place (as in I did the medic boot camp training and I carried the "injured soldier" on top of my head with my vision halfway through his chest!!) If that's not an issue in the full game, then it's just the controls: I mean between the badly labeled control setup and having to use the ENTIRE keyboard - I am completely lost. In a fit of rage after trying for a full 45 minutes to pick up the "injured soldier" in medic training, I bashed my keyboard and somehow got the "Action Menu" (Not that it's called that in the control setup) to come up and then I could then wear said soldier like a hat! I don't expect any hand holding - just post some links to anything that can help me with the controls or anything that you found to help/any keys to disregard/etc. I see there are a few youtube clips - start there? (I generally find them to be utterly useless) last minor "itch": no jump?! no very realistic for "uber realistic" game. having said all of that negative rage (sry) I have to say I cr**ped my self over the weapons' systems so real! Anyway, thanks to any and all for help here.
Hmmm. The animations are crap, but only when doing certain actions, like dragging a player to safety (which you hardly ever do in DayZ). Weapons are fantastic. You don't need to jump in Arma 2. Who runs with a 20kg backpack and a primary and secondary weapon and can still jump around like mario? To be honest, when I first tried Arma 2, I was very disheartened at how difficult it was to master it. Then I played Dayz. Now I can go back to playing Arma like a pro. It only takes a couple of days to get used to the controls. Be patient mate.
Guys I'd like to join in tonight - is it a matter of hoping onto the Mumble server and you'll tell me the story of where to go/server etc?
Hey Julian. Basically, we all go on whenever. If we are some distance from each other, then it doesn't matter if we are on different servers. If we want to meet up, then we choose a server that we all can join. Have you played DayZ or Arma 2 before?
Ok, so what you saying is that Day z has simpler/more straight forward controls? Well regardless, if just a matter of working with the learning curve and slowing working it out then fine. Gonna get Arma 2 this weekend, and then I'll step into Day z sometime next week. So see you then! Thanks for the help.
Exactly this, except Neal's been optmistic with weight. In a milsim, there is neither the time nor the inclination to stand around tapping a 'jump' key - you can climb, clamber, and vault over objects when you need to though. I played ARMA 2 on a free weekend ages ago. It was unbelievably tough. Even after a hefty download, and having looked forward to it; I was so put off, I quit and uninstalled. Dayz notso. While the environment is harsh - I found it fostered a better environment for picking up the controls naturally, you'll have them down in a cinch. Why yes, yes it is. Assuming you're new - got everything downloaded and installed?
Simpler, not really. It just that you don't need most of the controls and commands in DayZ. You just need to learn how to access your inventory and move things around.
Fair enough. I am just outside the NW airfield at the moment so it will take a little while to catch up. Where can I find the Mumble details?
Out of interest, how long in terms of months do you see you guys sticking with this? Want to jump on, but Anno 2070 has all my attention, and moving in with the girlfriend has eaten up a lot of gaming time, allowing me only a few 30 mins here and there!
this game is the only game that produces a great adrenaline rush apart from when i played fear1 back in the day, although still alpha is gives you such a rush when engaging players in 500-1000m firefights.
I have played DayZ for about 10 minutes before I realised going at it alone is probably for big boys only. Yeah I'm all downloaded and ready. Each server is a repeat of the map right? So to hook up we all need to be on the same server? I appreciate the vastness of the maps mean meeting up can be a PITA but I guess I have to start somewhere. What time y'all expecting to be on? So I'll just mumble up and talk to you guys there then I guess!?
Personally, as long as they continue to develop it and there are others playing. In a persistent death environment with your one character limit; there's a real incentive to survive . With that in mind, when I'm playing; I feel invested in my character - moreso than in any MMO (despite my love for them) as the potential to lose everything is always present. That being what it is, the simple addition of more items, and me wanting to progress this vulnerable meatsack character and hoard all the good stuff - will keep me going death after death! That said, when Salem comes out - I will be spending some time on this too for similar reasons!
aaahhh, so movement/weapon systems/inventory system only, none of the squad control and all that stuff? cool. I'll see how I get on with the demo though. I'm think now that maybe a bit too expensive to buy the game and add-on just for a mod.
