Just got my 7800gt today :D and although im pretty amazed at the performance increase over my 9800p, the fan stays on 100% all of the time - fine when im blasting away in cod2 - not so fine when browsing the web! Can anyone suggest any utilities that could tame this thing - smart fan type thing? Its a point of view card i.e. basically nvidia reference design. Any help would be much appreciated! Cheers! :thumb:

Is there nothing on the driver CD?

I noticed that with my ASUS card, the CD contained a load of utilities (for fan speed, temp monitoring, overclocking etc).
Have a gander, see if there's anything on the CD.

Other than that, I'm not sure. There must be something available.

Yeah - ive seen the asus utility - but cant see anything like it on the cd - going to have a play with rivatuner and some nvidia thing, im just hoping there's a utility to turn the fan down a little.

Download RivaTuner - if you go to Advanced settings or something similar then you should be able to set the fan speed manually.

Rivatuner has a facility to control fan settings:
    Select the 'Main' tab
In the driver settings section there is a box which says 'forceware detected' and in the corner is the word customise followed by a little arrow
Click the arrow to reveal a menu
Select the picture that looks like a graphics card from the menu (the tool tip will say 'system settings' when you just hover the mouse over it.
This will bring up another window with a 'fan' tab at the top
Select this tab and choose your fan settings
Click 'Okay' then close Rivatuner and reset your PC
Settings should take effect when Windows boots...

Or you could be like many others and notice no change - for some earlier cards the bios was screwed and so fan settings never changed even with the rivatuner alterations. In this case contact your card vendor and demand a bios upgrade. I have just this problem with my gainward 7800GT and I've got to email OCuk and they'll pass my correspondence onto the correct person at Gainward (and if you believe that then you probably still believe in Santa).

Indeed... my Gainward GTX isn't affected at all by the fan speed control software, be it their custom application or RivaTuner. If you get a response in any decent sort of time, let me know.

Sure is, I'm just waiting for my gf to recover from my latest spending spree before I splash out on a Laing DDC, XSPC Dual Rad and NV-7800, probably be post Christmas. I do have the new Arctic Silencer 5 Rev 3 waiting on Gainwards answer though.
