Starting to get on my tits now...

I want a Wii, but there is none around! So as I want a PS3 also I thought to myself "I'll just get a PS3 now and get a Wii in a few months".

But as I will only be getting a 1080i TV and not a 1080p, and I have a 720p monitor in my room, will the PS3 not get it's full potential shown? Or does it still look good on 1080i?

    Dunno what to do...

Why are you not considering the 360, out of interest?

no point in buying a ps3 now - there's no really compelling reason to own one. give it a few months and sure, buy one. until then, save yer money, wait for the dualshock 3 to become available in this country. Oh, also, very few ps3 games render at 1080p - they render at 720p (or less!) and upscale.

    (and buy a 360)

1080i is fine, I honestly don't see what all the fuss is about as long as it's not a 720p screen (as in pixels) trying to do 1080i and skewing everything out of proportion. EDIT: Sorry, didn't read - yes, 1080i on a 720p screen looks like arse.

Surely the question should be - what do you want to play NOW?

Over half of PS3 games top out at 720p anyway atm. Every game/demo I've played so far doesn't offer to play in 1080i. The only thing that does is the menu on bootup, which is nice.

I haven't played on a wii at all so can't really comment about which to get. PS3 seems pretty good, though. Motorstorm is a right blast and playing online is seamless. The missus bought Tiger Woods and Virtua Tennis and whilst they're not normally my cup of tea, they are surprisingly good games, particularly Virtua Tennis.

I'm just one of those people that will never buy a 360, even if someone gave me one for free I wouldn't play it kinda thing. :)

So about the PS3 situation, I don't really need to get a FullHD TV in the future, as the PS3 only requires 720p? That's cool, can save a few pennies there then. :)

    @ bindi

What I want to play now? Mario Galaxy of course, but as I can't find a Wii around my area, and i'm not paying £250 for a 2nd hand one. I'm looking the PS3 way as it does have a few decent games on it.

Wii's are cool. Love mine, when i get the chance to get on it.

Plus talked myself out of getting a PS3 as limited games, don't really need Blue-Ray at the mo and the pc is still my far the best way to play some games.

If you get a PS3 you won't play it either. There are no games on the damn thing.

Doesn't really answer the question as to why, just emphasises that you won't

If you like the PlayStation's utility as an all-in-one, do-it-all media center, then just go for it. It's the device's objective anyway. For $399, doesn't seem that expensive. Again, consider that it doesn't just play PlayStation games nor kill itself with a red ring.

I've never liked the things, hate the controller, stuff like that really.

    And Sony rule! ;)

(brother just bought himself a £2000 Sony TV + £500 Blu Ray player)

£500 BD player LOL. Rip :p

I can understand the controller thing though - tis why I never owned a PS2. The controllers have the erganomics of a sea cucumber that's eaten razor blades.

From the looks you just want a justification to buy a PS3 - go buy one, get it done with but make sure you get the expensive one or an american one so you have backwards compatibility because I'm assuming you have a ton of PS2 games still.

Sony are complete arse run by upper management tits who can't dress themselves. You're deluding yourself if you think Sony are any good.

If you wanted a PS3, I'd take the advice of everyone and wait for a few months.

He has a bit of money and is the biggest Sony fanboy in the world imo.

Think I'll wait it out for after Xmas tbh, hopefully some Wii's come in stock.

So.. you don't really want a PS3 then? Or what?

I want both, don't have money for both, Wii would of been my first choice, but as it's not in stock anywhere, and I'm not buying a £250 second hand one, then I thought of getting the PS3.

But as people have stated, there arn't many games out for the PS3, so what's the point?

Yeah... so... erm... get a 360. Gahh, there's a guy like you at my work - blindly buying a PS3 even in the face of all the evidence that they are rubbish, just because he has brand loyalty to Sony from the PS2. I genuinely think that that segment of the buying public must represent a big chunk of Sony's sales - god knows they can't be selling very many on merit. Having said that, I hear that Ratchet and Clank is the dog's danglies - that game almost had me considering a PS3 for a while, but only because I've already got a 360 and access to a Wii. And it's the only game I've seen for PS3 that I've been even remotely interested in. Compare that to the 360, where I'm having trouble tearing myself away from Halo 3 online, and when I do manage to stop playing that, I've got EA skate and Orange Box that I've barely started, the Darkness and Pro Evo 2008 that I haven't even started yet, and Mass Effect and Guitar Hero 3 that I haven't even bought yet. And those ones are just off the top of my head. As far as I'm concerned, anyone who buys a PS3 without already owning a 360 and/or a Wii is a bit of a numpty, really.

    AH

P.S. I'm fully aware that some of the games I've mentioned are available on all platforms. Some of them aren't though, so I'll play them on the platform which has all the other great games on it, thanks.

Edit: ****! CoD4 too! Haven't even bought that, either, but I played the beta and it's ****ing astonishing.

    Edit Edit: Forza 2

I have no brand loyalty to any console or system. I own a PS3, Wii and an Xbox 360.

    Xbox 360:

Loads of great games, nice controllers, Xbox live is awesome. Feels slightly lower quality than the PS3 does but that's not really a reason not to buy it more a personal preference thing

EDIT: sounds like it's about to take off too ;)

    Wii:

Great gadget for playing with mates. Very few good games although a couple of titles have shown up recently. Mine sits unused to the extent I'm going to sell it

    PS3:

Not a whole load of great games out just for the PS3, but a fair few games out on dual format that you would deffo want to play if you don't have an Xbox 360. Assassins Creed is good to have a play about with (despite it's drawbacks) and games like CoD 4, PES2008 and a few others are out there. Blu-Ray is great, really has an impact on me as someone who loves quality. I use a 720p Samsung HDTV and have bought a few Blu-Rays and all the ones converted to HD well look amazing. I have tried the Xbox 360 HD-DVD player but in all honesty it doesn't touch the PS3/Blu-Ray for quality, even at 720p

So yeah, if your deffo not going to get an Xbox 360, PS3 is a good second, with the Wii a close 3rd. All in my own personal (and most likely controversial :p) opinion :)
