I'm about to buy one of these from David I've also seen they're getting to be a bit more readily available from AliExpress ( currently around £110)
I plan on posting my case/mods and thoughts and thought it would be nice to have a dedicated thread for anyone else who is interested or wants to post stuff about them.

My spies tell me that avoiding audio over DP sidesteps some problems.
I look forward to seeing it in progress

Yeah, audio over USB works fine but audio over DP is just broken.

You can flash the BIOS for different levels of control over memory allocation.

Bazzite works great, but SteamOS needs work - I heard it was getting a lot better though.

That is our old friend 'Andy V-T' late of this forum.
He's in regular contact with my weekly LAN group and shared the build with us.
It is neater than some of the home brew solutions I've seen out there

Do the BC-250 have high idle power usage? Sure I saw that on a video about them.

Shouldn't do now. They did a while back, but there was a fix that brought it under control.
GPU governor script to down clock it as it didn't automatically along with undervolting from memory.

If it wasn't for the tinkering and all the cables i would have loved one of these for a daily linux desktop.

I've done a little research on PSUs and apparently 300w should be more than enough so I've ordered a metalfish unit. I was quite impressed with the 600w version so hopefully this one is good too.

Trying to decide between a single or dual fan case. Quite like the look of the steam machine single fan units but not sure if I should just make it bigger and cool better.

If you open up the rest of the fins and mount a pair of fans, that will be the most efficient method.

If you're thinking about a push-pull setup like this...

...save your plastic, it ain't worth it; unless you plan on investing in a pair of really beefy server fans and some ear defenders.

Is it worth a slim fan on the back as well?

    Subbed, thanks.

Did you update the bios or anything when you had it? I think it'd arrived just haven't opened the box yet to delay the " what shite are you buying now" conversation with my wife for a little bit longer :p:

I played around with a few updates - I think I left one on that allows you to change the RAM allocation. I think if you set the GPU to 512MB it will pull what it needs dynamically, iirc.

Straightened out the rest of the fins and installed a couple of fans. I've updated the bios probably didn't need to but following the process.

I've also installed Bazzite and tried to get my head around increasing CPU and GPU performance. I've managed to get the GPU drawing up to 180w but can't figure out how to install CPU-X Linux causes me a lot of confusion!

Case is just about ready too but awaiting power switch and PSU. I wish I'd went higher than 300W now that I see how much I've managed to get it pulling (280w from wall so far)

If I wasn't trying to be sensible I'd be buying one of these and having a play around.

Before you fire up a 3D printer, be aware that he updated the design yesterday (30/03/2026)
